I wouldn't be 100% on knowing if it's original. Maybe one of our vintage experts will chime in on that aspect.

As for servicing / a refurbishment I think sending it back to Glashtutte would be the best. I don't say that lightly as I would normally suggest a good watchmaker for the servicing but your watch looks a little far gone for me. How is it running ? If it is running ok, is it keeping good time ??

Looks legit to me anyway. The dial has seen better days, but if it's running then that's less of an issue. You could go for a redial to clean it up. With very rare or sought after watches that's a no no, but for for an everyday vintage watch you're going to use I'd not see much of a problem going that route.

Local to Dublin service for vintage stuff? I wish I could tell you. I'd like to know myself. :)

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

You can send it to Glashuette (the place) in Germany alright, but I guess they'd have a hard time to figure out what to do with it there.

Most of the old GDR calibers are discontinued and between all the different watchmakers in Glashuette to my knowledge there is not one that could be regarded as the direct descendant of the old VEB Glashuette (GUB). (and who might still have dials and other parts in stock)

Once you do know the caliber (should be marked somewhere) it shouldn't be too difficult though to source parts through the internet if any should be needed.

Peasant is on the money here; nobody in Glashütte will have any interest in this and, if they did, a service would not be economical. I would suggest setting up a few saved searches on ebay.de and you might find a replacement dial (or more likely donor watch) for not very much. If it was mine I would probably be scouring a few Berlin flohmarkts but I understand that's it's not so easy for the rest of you.

I suggest you get the back off; you need to know what the movement is so that you know what you've got.
