    Hey all,

Anyone here know where to pick up movie posters in town? I know there's plenty of websites to buy from, but I'm buying some for as a Christmas present so I want to make sure I get them in town so I think buying them in town would be best... Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance!

There is/was a place in a basement on Molesworth Street that used to supply all the vintage posters to the IFI.

They do a lot of old movie posters but they cost hundreds.

I'm pretty sure this shop is still there. On Liffey Street Upper. Always see a few movie posters in here.

the only places I know of are the usual such as HMV, Tower Records and the like
Usually around the start of the academic term there are good pop up poster sales in colleges and I did see someone with one the other day in town so there maybe one in Trinity or one of the smaller colleges like DIT
here is a link to that Molesworth st place http://www.gallery29.ie/gallery.php?id=5
there is a framed poster shop on Liffey st called Expo but they are usually very expensive

That's the place. Couldn't remember the name of it.

It's only worth visiting if you have a lot of cash to throw around though. Very expensive.

Hey, to be honest nothing in particular, it's for my bro and he's into action/lad movies of all sorts! :P I was looking for three posters, along the lines of the new Batman movies, Clint Eastwood, Drive, etc., etc.

    Anything like that? :)

Well I get my posters for a cinema - I go once a month and they give me about 20 - 30 Posters from that month :P Sometimes i get Standees aswell :)

I go to the cinema probably once a week depending on what's on. So I build a relationship with Management.

Just go up and ask :)

I have a few here at the moment - but none of action movies :) - I tend to keep them myself :P

    Hope that helps.

Good idea... I'll pop into Cineworld and see if they'll donate to my cause! :D

Let us know how you get on :)

They will probably say that all promotional items go back to the studios. It really gets binned after the cinema is finished with them :)

Cinemania used to do some nice posters really cheap. In Temple Bar. Along with a load of other cinema related stuff. The lads used to do some nice swops too...

    :)

    All gone now. Sadly. :(

You could try that new music shop on College Green just up by Trinity

How was your trip to Cineworld ? Did you get any poster - free or paying for them ?

Thats disappointing and a lost business opportunity if you ask me - I'm sure lots of people would be willing to pay for many of those posters etc

Surely they dont dispose of the massive wall hanging promotional stuff they have in some cinemas? - those things must cost a bomb to print

If someone is looking for a poster from Cineworld, your only real chance of getting one is by going in there on a Thursday evening when all the posters, banners, standees etc get done.

I contacted Cineworld, and here's their reply:
[...] we do not own any of the promotional material displayed in our cinemas. The promotional material we receive remains the property of the distribution companies at all times and is returned to the distributors once the film is taken off the circuit.[...]

Hey. I didn't actually go into cineworld to ask, kinda expected the answer bluestrattos got above! I'd say everyone would get that response unless you actually knew someone who worked there.

I did get some great posters from the IFI shop on Eustace street tho. Really unusual ones and plenty of cult classics like Full Metal Jacket and Akira.

What about their prices ? Same as you find in online stores, or cheaper ?

They were very reasonable. I can't remember as I picked them up before christmas, but I remember getting a bunch of them and not spending more than 20 or 30 quid. Some great anime ones in there also, all proper poster dimensions as well. Some of them were a bit bashed up tho! Still, considering I only had a few days to grab them as they were for a Christmas present I was happy enough.

Hi all, know this is a bit late, but wondering if anyone would be able to recommend a good place preferably in town with a decent selection of posters. Looking for one in particular, it's from the TV show Friends and it's called "Lunch on a Skyscraper." wouldn't be surprised if many of you are familiar with the well-known photo. If any of you have seen this poster around Dublin, it would be great if you could let me know, don't fancy buying online. Thanks in advance!
