    The 'christmas Special' was on this evening.

    As usual for an RTE comedy it was as funny as an ashtray. Cringeworthy attempted slapstick with a few silly faces from Shortt.

    The thing that gets me is Pat Shortt has a track record of excellent comedy sense and timing. Yet he can make such complete turkeys like Mattie.

    Does he actually laugh at his plot lines and/or scenes..?

    Dreadful stuff...:(

    But yeah its crap, I like Pat Short but Mattie is sh1t, Killinascully was sh1t too.

    I can honestly say I've never laughed out loud at Killinascully either but know that it is popular with acertain cohort.

    However Mattie doen't work for anyone I've spoken ot...

    This year he has a two part special, starting on St Stephen's Day.

    Not that it will be any better.

    Killinascully was very funny for the first season, a bit less funny the season after that and pretty poor by the end. Mattie was very poor as a pilot. I can see why RTE might have thought, OK, he's a funny guy with a good track record, we'll give him six episodes to get the show going. Even the US comedy, UP ALL NIGHT had an awful pilot and steadilly improved after that. The problem is that Mattie really is not great, and it was obvious enough at the end of the first season that it wasn't getting better. Yes, there are a few laughs but they're well spaced out. I really am surprised RTE haven't put this show out of it's misery by now. I certainly wouldn't be commissioning a double Christmas special anyway!

    Since when?

    The only time Ive laughed at Shortt is when he is delivering great lines written by other people (Father Ted, Man About Dog etc etc). That Dunbelieveables stuff was tragic.

    I don't blame you for bashing the show!!! I myself am a die hard Pat Shortt and D'Unbelievables fan, and loved their style up to this point!!! But I believe Mattie to be a flop. One thing though, he does not take sole credit for writing the show!!! The show's other writer is Mike Finn, I don't really like him!!! But he and Shortt have two different writing styles and they clash. That's one of the reasons I don't like it!!!
