Laptop hanging and crashing

I have a dell 2 year old laptop running W7. About a week ago it Firefox started hanging badly and freezing. So I ran Malawarebytes and found I had a Trojan Flash virus. I deleted it and then ran a full avast scan in safe mode. This found nothing. I reinstalled Firefox and flash etc. Still not helping. Whole computer is hanging now, from start menu to control panel. I got 2 blue screen 'windows shutdown to prevent damage' notices, one citing PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA code. I have tried everything at this stage but to no avail. Anybody have any clues as to what it could be?

    Your help is much appreciated.

Try CrystalDiskInfo to check the hard drive. If that comes up ok (green) then download ComboFix and let it scan your laptop for virus and spyware - might need to do this in safe mode.

Thanks. The CrystalDisk scan is coming back yellow (caution) and saying something about Current Pending Sector Count. Its a little confusing this programme! Should I just kick on and use ComboFix?

That yellow means it's starting to fail. It may not be the cause of the problems though. Do the combofix and see if it remove anything.

Thanks. I did the combofix and now it seems to be working again, fingers crossed! Thanks for the advice. It was much appreciated.

Make sure you backup your files from that disk, it will eventually fail.
