I was told that if you have a vehicle off the road for several years and hence no NCT in that several year period then you will have to pay for the amount of NCTs that the vehicle was due in the period it was off the road. Is there any truth in this as I cant find anything in relation to it on the NCT website?

Don't think so. I got one tested that was 4 years over and it cost same as usual and was valid for a while (cant remember)
