Would be definitely deserved, how do we know Basel didn't cheat too? United were cheated out of a place in the second round if you ask me.

    Joke

    Won't happen.

    Nor should it.

As a Itd fan I wouldn't like to see it happen. We dont deserve to be there. Would much rather see Munich just get through to the next round, although they would probably beat Utd anyway.

It would be 50:50, they most certainly would prefer to play Basel then us

Not gonna happen, too much of a mess, someone will have to be reinstated in the europa league then too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,691 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Wont happen, shouldnt happen and on the outside chance it does happen Utd should respectfully decline the invite to go back into the CL.

Qualify on the pitch or not at all imo

No thanks, United were beaten fair and square. Basel have earned their place and shouldn't lose it due to the actions of another club.

They intend to punish FC Basel for doing absolutely nothing wrong? Somehow I doubt that would hold up in any court.

    lol

If by some miracle this does happen why should UTD decline? Someone's got to fill the gap.

The notion that United should decline a (very unlikely) possible invitation back into the competition is kinda cute but totally out of touch with reality.

There's a few of us United fans going up to protest outside the Swiss embassy tomorrow, and we've already got a lot of signatures on our petition to ban the sale of Toblerones in Ireland until this is cleared up. You can find more details on our facebook campaign page, or by using the twitter hashtag #CheatingSwissCúnts. Please support, thanks.

Poor Basel if it does happen. They completely deserve to be in the final 16 and Utd don't. End of.

I cant see this happening, there'd be absolute murder if it did.

Of course there would be murder.

Basle deserve to be in next stage and I wish them all the best.

They were the better team over United the group.

But still the old ABU brigade cant resist without an old dig here and there.

    Sad.

Sure english teams were banned from european competition before, many guiltless ones too. Anyway this is laughable. If the roles were reversed does anyone think for a second that Utd would be dumped out of the Champion's league by Uefa? I can't see them doing it anyway, their corruption becomes too obvious if they do imo. They have to at least try pretend they ain't corrupt.

ABU? wow there's a phrase I haven't heard since the 90's! Does this still exist? Sure Utd aren't as dominant as they were back then anymore so I think it's becoming more ABC these days.

The Swiss FA will not screw up Basel by defying FIFA on this issue.

Anyway, they won't be back in the Champions League.

As a United fan, I hate the story. Whether the case of the club Sion is true, fair enough, dump out Basel, but for the love of Fergie don't put United into the game with Bayern.

Give Bayern the bye into the quarters and let us forge our way through the Europa League.

What???United won 6 leage titles in 90's and guess how many in 00's?? Yes 6! Two European finals in the 90s winning both but only one European cup. In 00's they have been to 3 European Cup Finals winning one. You could argue they have been more successful in the 00's as the leage has got stronger. The ABU's didnt vanish after City beat them 6-1!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,989 ✭✭✭Noo

For me its anyone but utd city chelsea Liverpool and spurs...don't take it personally, utd arent in anyway a special team on that list.

Ok. Pedantic much? Let me rephrase that, Utd haven't been as dominant in the 00's as they were in the 90's straight after they won there first Premier league title. Not the ten year period exactly of the 90s but from when they won there first. Not as many titles per year. Europe is europe, a different argument imo as the format of the cup competitions has been so different in the two decades os its hard to compare and contrast actual dominance imo.

I just hate the term. It screams of small town syndrome so to speak. Sure I take a certain pleasure in seeing UTD lose games but that is as much to do with a few of my best mates being Utd fans, if I had no close friends who were Utd fans I wouldn't care even nearly as much. I equally enjoy seeing spurs lose as I have one mate who is a spurs fan. For me it's more to do with friendly rivalries than anything else really. Chelsea have had quite a few losses at Stamford bridge this season for example, however while some of those games have been really good dramatic games of football I take no paticular pleasure in seeing them lose to Arsenal for example. However when Utd and spurs play I enjoy seeing them lose so I can slag my mates. That's not ABUism is it??

Plus after Utd won that first PL title only two teams managed to snatch the title from them in the rest of the decade. Blackburn being one who were a one season wonder and went on to fall away significantly. The gunners got their act together towards the end of the decade and gave Utd a serious run for their money for a couple of years but in the 00's Utd were far less dominant as The gunners won two titles in the first half of the decade and chelsea won 3 in the second 5 years with both providing real competition for Utd for significant periods of the decade, something which Utd didn't experience in the 90's. Looks like the next decade will have even more fierce competition for Utd. Not to mention the team that Utd had in the late 90's is probably the second best team to ever grace the PL (the invincibles being the best imo), no such claims can be made imo about any team Utd have put together in the 00's.

5 sides won the league in the 90's, only 3 in the 00's

Ok I can see you people are not gonna let this go. I meant Utd were more dominant from the moment they won their first title in the 90's and onwards. That is all I'm referring to as this is when Utd became the dominant force in English football again. Go aheads and argue semantics if you would like. Utd won more PL titles per season from their first win in '93 to the end of the 90's than they did per season in the 00's if you break it down like that. Utd won 6 out of 8 titles during that period of the 90's compared to only 5 in the whole decade of the 00's. Come on people, it's not that difficult to understand is it?? Or are ye all just gonna get bogged down in trying to be clever?

That last sentence could have done with a comma in there somewhere, but apart from that, I can't really fault you. Carry on.

Lol, sure. Ok lets say Utd had had a 9 year period where they won 7 league titles during the 90s. During this period I personally noticed a massive increase in ABU's. No team, including Utd, has replicated this sort of dominance since, therefore leading to a reduction in ABanythings!!! Why are people being so obtuse about this? Anyway I'm off outa this thread now until a decision is made on this.

At least have the numbers right ?

    93,94,96,97,99 = 5 from 7 but a decade is 10 years....
    00,01,03,07,08,09 = 6 from 10
