Replacing Avensis Clutch & Flywheel

04 Avensis Diesel. Clutch is slipping a little, and at 220k miles the mechanic has suggested it will need to replaced soon.

I'm leaning towards continuing with a dual mass flywheel. Haven't had any issues with the car up until now.

Seems the solid ones can lead to more gearbox wear and clunkier gear change in general.

I don't think there is a massive difference in the price of them.

    Any opinions?

Do you know how many different clutch and flywheels are available for this car. With out knowing the year "and" engine code you cannot decide this is the correct kit. As for the price, 399 into Euro is what €470-ish? To get the correct part in Ireland would be pretty similar and should there be any problems you would have the back up there. Warranties are not that easy to sort.

OP Valeo do not make a solid flywheel replacement for the Avensis 2.0D4D, so I "think" you can only get the DMF, I don't know who else makes the solid kits. As for gearbox wear, never heard this before, the only think I was ever aware of is the DMF reduces vibrations, wear the SMF does not and these vibrations need to go somewhere.

I have sold both makes and have received training courses from both.

I wasn't aware there would be so many variants. The years this would suit were allegedly correct. I know my engine code and chassis details, so I'll ring them up to confirm if it's correct, and what code they are selling.

I'm also checking two of the local motor factors first before I buy anything.

    Thanks

If your clutch is just slipping and you have no issues with your flywheel I wouldn't bother replacing it at this stage as i have rarely replaced many dmf in Avensis of late...

Locally, I can get a Luk kit for 240. Micksgarage has blueprint, excedy, and qh clutches for about 15 more.

    I'm leaning towards local.

i think the best is take off clutch, bring it over to local, just to be 100 % sure.

I don't have any experience with Exedy (but suspect they are pretty good), but it would be madness to go fitting a blueprint or particularly a Quinton Hazell clutch for more than the cost of a LuK. At half price, maybe it would be worth a punt!

Just about to buy the Luk, and I found a valeo one for 170 in another local store. As good as Luk?

    Yes Valeo are good.

Bought the Luk one from ebay. Little bit cheeky in regard to the wording of the article.

TOYOTA AVENSIS D4D 2003- LUK CLUTCH KIT, DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL REPLACEMENT, BOLTS

Seems Dual Mass Flywheel Replacement does not equal a replacement dual mass flywheel. But a replacement for a dual mass flywheel. As in a single mass one. With the correct clutch, of course.

To be honest, I'm not particularly bothered. Got the lot at a very good price. Bit cheeky though.

New clutch has made a big difference to the car. So light in comparison to the old one.

That does not sound like an LUK kit. LUK don't make or recommend solid replacements. The clutch kit would suit the SMF and car, if it is working ok.

I have troubles with my clutch too. Any help? Can I replace the dual mass flywheel with single mass flywheel? Will this pose any challenges?

from what ive heard - you definintely can get a solid flywheel to replace the original dual mass fylwheel (which are pretty useless and a pathetic money makin racket of a part)

i m after the same parts for my 04 d4d 2.0l avensis - so anyone know who does the best clutch and solid flywheel in ireland - please post
the micksgarage.ie price of more than 450euro just for the fllwheel seems pretty ****e really. this is a good price? hate to hear the ripoff price

i ll get it delivered from north or south ireland- as i dont need the parts til fri or next tues even.

town and country in tuam are meant to be good value - will try them later on once i get the number.

    thanks in advance people

town and country in tuam- 09352559
clutch and flywheel for 330 including vat. (the brand is national- apparently there good brand)
any advice over quality difference between brands is requested?

    thanks in advance

thats the solid mass flywheel. - cheapest i found on ebay was 500 - and it was in england. done deal has better deals - but there in dublin and possibly dont have the stock - or either that dont offer anny warranty.

town and country are there in tuam for many years - beware of backyard part sellers - as you can be burnt alright. (written from experience)

one mechanic i know is of the opinion that blueprint are average in quality and durability, and a few others i know say there isnt much difference in the different brands of clutch/flywheels available for dsl avensis 03 - 08
i d like to here more of peoples experience with this - especially if you managed to wear one of these replacement clutches (or clutch .flywheel kits) out in less than 80 000 miles or 18months of driving -

mehcanics/taxi drivers/sales reps may be the best ones to advise on these experiences
