If you plan on going out for a shot but arent after anything in particular how do you decide which firearm to bring. With me I always bring the wrong one. If I have the shotty I'll no doubt see a fox at 200-300yds if I bring the .223 Ill only see grey crows hovering over my head and if I bring the .22lr ill only see anything beyond 200yds.
Maybe a toss of the coin is the only way to do it.

Bring a buddy with you, and have one of you carrying the shottie, and the other lad carrying the .223. That way you have all your bases covered

Unless i'm after foxes specifically it's always the shottie. As i said to a friend recently who was sffering the same problem jus because you see it doesn't mean you have to shoot it.

I've often gone out and never fired a shot due to nothing to see or simply out of range for the firearm i brought.

sounds like you need a caddy;):D

223 unless I'm after rabbits OR I'm specifically ambushing greycrows in a particular place. Can't kill them too dead, can't kill them too far away!

Yeah it would be great to have a caddy alright :D

Went out with the right one today... .223. got meself a maggie at 200 and a grey at 160yds. I love it when a plan comes together.

Id prefer a shotty to be honest. A couple of alphamax for charles and then a few 4's a handful of 6's and thats generally it sorted for anything that might pass by.

If you take the rifle then your not gonna be getting a pheasant or a duck or anything. I find the shotgun gives ya more flexibiltiy- shame about the noise.

we head out for pheasants and see a rake of deer and no birds, we head out for deer and the pheasants are spooking the deer when they break from the trees:rolleyes::rolleyes:

lamping is grand because i have the hmr for bunnies and close foxes and the other lad has the .243 for foxes. a third man on the lamp and its handy out

I would choose the shotgun over the .223 if I am just going for a ramble.
Belt filled with 7 1/2, 6, 5 and 2 BB's for charlie if I meet him on the way.

Actually no biggie!Liscensed as a rifle.;)
Only trouble is you only have one shot of each.Get a Drilling [SXS with a rifle barrel underneath it] and you are upping your odds.
    Like this.

Its a tough call i'd normally bring the hmr as its a good medium (the flying crowes have to land sometimes) ;) Sometimes I'd sling the rifle over my shoulders and carry the shotgun if i was only going out for a wander, that way you could fire a magpie that broke out of a bush quickly, but if I was going any place I thought i had the chance of meeting phesant/woodcock or duck i'd only bring the shotgun!

    Well its american made Eberlestock.
They do both tactical and hunting packs, they also supply the US forces.
    I have a thread here.

Where i was hoping there was a Irish supplier, but no luck yet:(
If not i have seen them on many online sites. Not sure about UK though, but i think someone imports them there

And you will get fit allright;):D
But that all depends on your catch, the more the heavier it gets;)
