Hi all, anybody know of a Cortisone injection is recommended for joint pain, ie ankle, knee, shoulder. heard this is rare nowadays as there are question marks about this substance.?? that it was just a stop-gap measure like getting a sportsman through an important game etc.
    advice welcome.!!

Unfortunately its still not all that uncommon.

Dunno about joint pain tbh, but years ago I did something stupid in training which resulted in Trigger finger in my left hand. This is crucial to the sport I do. A doctor told me I will need a cortisone injection. I asked him and he confirmed that you could only get a max of 3 injections to the same spot.

I therefore decided that as my training was causing the injury I needed to fix my training to fix the injury. If I got the injection it would come back again and I would need another shot. I was also reccomended it for bursitis in my achilles by a physio but I also declined and worked my training around it and included some rehab.

Basically, decide wether you really need it. If its due to a severe injury maybe, but if its due to routine trainine.... some rest and fix the trainings. Up to you and your doc.

    Have a read

    Some great advice from Deegs.

Bottomline in that whilst it may alleviate the pain the symptoms remain which is the key issue.

Best of luck if you have some pain in alleviating it!
