out of curiosity, does the DPP simply refer their cases for prosecution to independent barristers, in the same way that a legal aid solicitor would refer a case a barrister for defence?

do barristers utilised by the DPP work exclusively as prosecutors?

Are they based inthe DPP's office (north king street), or are they simply forwarded briefs by the DPP to their office at the bar council/law library for prosecution?

Could barristers essentially work a combination of defending & prosecuting various cases on a day to day basis?

Is there even a grain of truth in the story that Barristers appearing on behalf of the DPP get paid far quicker than Barristers appearing for the Defence on Legal Aid ?

    Re barristers briefed by DPP
    - outside Dublin and possibly Cork

    1. DPP usually briefs one barrister in each county. Used to selected mainly on political criteria, now selected after submission of CV and interview

    2. Barrister so selected for prosecutions would not take defence briefs in same area

    3. Barristers ( unless in Cork Chambers or in Law Library ) work from own homes or offices

    4. No
