I like my phones to be like myself. Huge in me pocket hahaha.
Evo3d is 4.3 and you wouldn't even know it's in your pocket half the time. I would go mental with a smaller phone.

I was using a Nokia C7 for a fair while and I won a HTC Sensation XL a few days ago. As soon as I opened the box it looked like a mini tablet. I held them in each hand and the C7 looked very small. If I have to use the C7 now I have to remember to hold it a bit further to my face, because the XL requires I hold it back from my face bit more than I would normally.

It's very conspicuous alright, I don't like taking it out of my pocket.

I went to the shop earlier this year fully intending on buying a HTC Desire....ended up leaving with a Wildfire purely because the Desire was so massive! The Wildfire is a nice, "normal"-sized phone.

Size is what turns me off buying some of the new phones alright. Cant please everyone though.

No point in having stunning displays on small screens, phones are fast becoming multimedia devices so larger screens make sense. Of course companies are going to push the limit to see what the most desirable size is.

I guess it primarily depends on what you want the device for - as a phone my N8 is a better device than the Galaxy Note I've just gotten, however I gelled with the Notes size instantly despite having thought Iphones and the like were stupidly big. I'm still using the N8 for camera, gps and the fm transmitting in the car, but I don't think I could go back to using it as my only device now, certainly not for pdfs/pics/web/documents anyway. Everything else just seems puny now :pac:

Yes but its a phone after all. Depends what you want it for i suppose. If you want it as a 2-in-1 phone/tab i suppose a 4-5" screen makes sense. I like my phones neat tho. For anything suited to a bigger screen i mostly use my 7" tab

The only thing that concerns me about bigger screens is poorer battery life.

IMO screens dont need to be bigger than 4 inches on a phone.

To be honest, I keep hearing people say stuff like 'It's a phone' It should have all those abilities' You don't need them, It just needs to malls

Its no longer the case, Phone's and PDA's joined along time ago and now we have Smartphones, These are small handheld computers. Nobody says that a computer is too big. Computers use to be the size of a room, Then they got much smaller!! I have the Samsung Galaxy Note, It has a 5.3" screen, It has a resolution of 1280 x 800, Some laptops don't have resolutions that high. No tablet has a better resolution. Even with 10" screens.

I love this phone, It's exactly what I have been waiting for. It's more than portable enough to bring around with me, It has the ability to properly browse the internet and watch tv shows and even movie's. It has all the abilities of a tablet, But it fits in your pocket. The battery is on par with the iPad with 9 hours non stop playback of a video.

When you say phones are getting to big, You really mean computers are getting smaller again. The size of a phone comes down to one thing, User preference, Be it 4" or 3.5" or 5.3" you are cover.

If you want a phone that has the basics with Email, Phone, Messaging. Then you really don't need a high end phone with 3.5"+ screen, But if you want a true laptop/computer replacement, Then bigger the better is a simple fact.

The Galaxy note is by far the perfect size for exactly that!! While some people will immediately disagree, Then it's there preference, But remember, If you have laptop then you really have no argument. The great thing about smartphones is they come in all shape and sizes.

P.S sorry for the long post, Had some time to kill and this subject is something I have taught about before. Also, Anyone who thinks a phone is too big, Used it for about an hour, You will change your mind once you adapt to it. It's because of using smaller devices for years that you come to expect smaller sizes as more comfortable, But bigger just feels right after awhile.

I totally see where you're coming from , but personally i'd feel like an absolute twat carrying around a 5.3" phone. +i have my tablet for all the things you mentioned, it's just handy to have the same apps etc. on my phone if i don't have my tablet on me for any reason

And Android gives you that choice to both have a small screen and most if not all of the functions of a smartphone or have a large vivid display with a powerful media device.

There's alot less choice in the smaller models, well when it comes to spec anyway. The xperia ray was the only one that ticked all the boxes really. Would have been nice to have more than one to choose from tho. Like i said i didn't want a big clunky one. And to be honest i don't see the advantage of a 'large' vivid display unless you're watching video content, in which case a tab is much better

Got the Xperia Ray from 3 as well, for much the same reasons as yourself, great phone and getting good battery life from it,something the bigger phones don't give

I guess I mangled that explanation. The Sensation XL's screen is large, but relatively low-res. So I have to hold it back slightly further than I did with my previous phone. Because everything on the display is a bit oversized otherwise.

So if I have to use my C7, I hold it back the same distance as I would the Sensation XL - out of newly-acquired habit. Because of this, everything on the C7's screen is quite small in comparison. Every time I have to remind myself to bring it further in so that I can actually read the C7's display.

It took me a couple of weeks to get used to the Galaxy Nexus' 4.7 screen, but I have and I don't even think about it anymore. It's not too big.

Having said that, when I pick up my old Desire, or an iPhone, there is something to be said for the snug fit of a 3.5 or 3.7 inch phone. But I'm not sure I'd sacrifice how amazing everything looks, and reading web pages, on the 4.7.
