Rovers : Brush, Sullivan, Oman, Murray, Stevens, Rice, Turner, Dennehy, Finn, Paterson, Sheppard.

Subs: Thompson, O'Donnell, McCabe, Twigg, Kilduff, O'Neill, Ricketts.

Tottenham : Cudicini, Assou-Ekotto, Kaboul, Livermore, Rose, Townsend, Kranjcar, Sandro, Pienaar, Giovani. Defoe.

    Subs: Gomes, Carroll, Kane, Falque

Tough game for Rovers. Lots of internationals in that Spurs lineup

Very strange to only have four subs considering all the kids he could of brought?

I'd say the Rovers players can't wait for the end of this game and a break from football. Nearly a full year of football for them.

Thats a good side Spurs have out. Just shows how strong their squad is. Very surprised about the 3 outfield subs thing tho.

Hope Rovers can put up a good show and not get a hammering.

Emotional night too for Enda Stevens. Heading to Villa after this match. Was reading an interview with him about his sister in the paper the other day, pretty sad and emotional stuff.

Fun little video intro from 3e tonight. Interesting that they called it Ireland vs England. I wonder are there any cringe-worthy tricolours decked out with THFC or Spurs on them.

    Rovers started well...

Good stuff so far from Rovers, playing well. Just hope they don't do the usual in this Europa lge and give away a soft goal.

why do rovers have a star over their crest on their jersey? isnt that reserved exclusively for clubs who have won the european cup?

Clear small man syndrome on City's part.

In the LOI, if a team's won ten titles, they can put a star above their crest, hence Rovers, Shels and Bohs all have one, AFAIK.

1-0 Spurs pretty sure there was a big deflection or two
    Spurs playing 4-4-1-1 i think

Pity Rovers didn't get Spurs at home earlier in the group stages. They look like they could get a result here, but that's because Spurs don't even want to play in this competition. It really is a disgrace that knobends like Redknapp are allowed to devalue a competition like the Europa League, guess there's not much that can be done about it. We can only hope that new regulations re operating within financial constraints will put jumped up nobody clubs like Tottenham in their place.

    Soft enough goal really

Shud have been 2-0 Gio got too much on the cross to Defoe.

Er Spurs regularily makes a profit.

Limerick embarassingly think they should have one for every league title they've won.

not the only knobend out tonight then?

Quality finish. This cud get ugly in 2nd half. Spurs need to win well to get thru, and other game is going their way. Cud end up in a 5 or 6-0 loss

Fair enough, the new regulations if imposed will help Spurs domestically so, but it will also put them and the rest -not all- of the EPL clubs in their place vis a vis the Europa League. The lack of respect shown for this competition by Redknapp and others has been disgraceful.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,153 ✭✭✭everdead.ie

3-0 Don't know how that went in

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,133 ✭✭✭Stevecw

3-0 now Defoe, all so so easy. Feel sorry for Rovers, and can only see it getting worse sadly

Funnily enough the financial regulations will be a massive benefit to Spurs as the club is ran properly with no crazy cash leaking investments like Man City and Chelsea etc. :)

Not really the money to be earned from the Europa League is ridiculous and the number of extra games played due to everyone from the champions league who gets thrown in takes away hugely from teams domestic form and ability to compete.

Good and it may level the playing pitch a bit across the European game as well.

Spurs need 2 more and for PAOK to win... is this correct?

We just won the league while competing in it. Whens the last time Spurs won a trophy of note? Pathetic that they arent interested in winning the competition, its not like they are Man Utd or something.

This is great. I hope Spurs get through. Can't have Stoke being the only English club in it.

    Oh, of course...

I'd forget my head if it weren't screwed on.

There probably needs to be reform in the administration of the EL, but there was a time a club like Spurs were delighted to perform in the old UEFA Cup - 1984 they won it I think.

It was and still can be a great competition. Also-ran clubs like Spurs have been making money too easy in the EPL and competitions like the EL have suffered as a consequence. Hopefully the new regulations will bring some sanity back to the game.

You don't think winning the Premier League is about 10x harder than the LOI?

Pathetic that your team won't manage even a point, and look so out of their depth at this level.

First time in Europe and with quite a tough group, is it surprising that Rovers look out of their depth? It's an amazing feat that Rovers are in the competition.

Know they finished the LOI season not long ago, but I think six straight losses looks very poor, in a competition far inferior to the Champions League.

Shamrock Rovers are a club that competes and wins trophies on a regular basis, it could be argued that a club like Spurs are largely also-rans that make up the numbers in their domestic league. That's why I find their attitude in this competition galling, it appears they think they are too big for it. In reality this ( the EL) is the competition that Spurs belong in, they simply don't have the pedigree to compete at CL level.

Oh jesus. By the virtue of qualifying for the Europa League, regardless of how big a shock it was for them to qualify, and how much of a financial minnow they are relative to everyone else in the competition, Shamrock Rovers should now automatically be competing with the teams who would have expected to qualify?

So because Rovers win trophies in a far inferior league they are a bigger team than Spurs?

the loi season ended over a month ago, the rovers team is seriously lacking match sharpness. id like to see the spurs team play in europe after july
i dont think that tv3 commintary team knows much about irish football. the comment about making up the numbers at the start of the 2nd half. rovers have done excellently to make the europa but it is no guarantee and shouldnt be treated as one, its why MON is leaving by the sounds of it (they wouldnt increase the budget), and its (part) why shels, bohs, cork, derry, have gone to the wall in the past. if it doesnt come off the club is screwed. rovers have been to hell and back and rightly so is in no rush to repeat the past

Nobody said that. What was said that Rovers will come out of all this with a trophy in their cabinet, Spurs won't but still won't take it seriously. Why twist it into another argument that wasn't made?

Dont bother, these barstoolers equate football with some kind of playstation world. They couldnt possibly imagine what is involved in taking a semi-pro fan owned club to this level

I don't mind. I hate Rovers alot more than they do. Still, there is only so much lunacy one can read without the mind exploding.
