    Hi,

I have my second driving test in January in Skibereen, co.cork. I failed miserably first time round with most of my marks for observation and progress (went too slow) . I have had a few lessons but decided to stop taking them because my instructors told me i had no bad habits and after one particular lesson a instructor completely knocked my driving confidence. So my dad has been teaching me ever since! Any tips to help me with my observation ?? what do you have to signal and observe when doing the turnabout :)

    Thanks everyone :D

Check out the leaning to drive forum - quite helpful

    OP

Turning your back on driving instructors is a VERY bad idea. The driving test today would bear very little resemblance to the one your Dad did many years ago.

I too had mixed experiences with instructors, but one or two pre-test lessons with a good instructor will maximize your chances of success.

I would advise you to head on over to the Cork County forum and throw up a post looking for recommendations on a good instructor for your area.

Get more lessons. If a bad instructor can throw your driving, an examiner will destroy it.

    OP - some advice.

I did my test the 1st time after months of lessons with a family member. FAiled with over 27 marks.

Second time around I got 5 lessons with an ADI and passed with (afair) 4 marks.

Moral is get some proper lessons.

    Moved to learning to drive.

And just to agree with pretty much everyone on this thread. You need to get lessons asap from an ADI. No matter how safe or competent a driver your dad is, the skills he knows will not mean you pass the test. There are lots of details that people quickly forget when they start driving with a full license, and it's these small details that will make the difference between a pass and a fail.

You did the right thing in ditching what sounds like a poor instructor. Your dad can help you practice but you should find another ADI who will help you. Ask around for recommendations from friends etc.

    Good luck

Definately get some proper lessons from an ADI. I'm pretty sure you can find a list of them on the rsa website. Your Dad might have bad habits that you may pick up.
