Just a quick question as I have goggled this and had no joy. On Monday night during the storm there was a flash of lighting and my Sky box went off I turned off everything and got it working again but the next morning all four lights were on and my land-line was not working but I can still get broadband, so I take it these are connected issues?

I am with Vodafone and very hard to get straight answer all I know it will take up to 5 working days to get it sorted and we got that news this morning, no TV makes me sad:(

I can't turn off the box, when I press the buttons nothing happens it just stays on I have no Sky menu to work with just static.

Try unplugging reciever from mains along with unplugging phone line connection to reciever, wait few mins and see does reciever power on from standby without phone line connected.

Came across similer situation with friends sky+ box which was damaged beyond repair when lightning entered reciever via phone connection which spiked across board damaging several key components, Try and borrow reciever to cheak dish-LNB and cable is ok also get reciever cheaked out to see if can be repaired.

Turns out the box is fecked, got another box of a mate and it's working fine with my viewing card, rang sky about a replacement and all they offered was a maintenance call for €100 or an upgrade to a sky plus box for €109 so I went for the cancel sky altogether package which was done via the Cork office where I had a discussion with a very rude lady! Oh and the were to come to the house on the 10th Jan to install the new box.

You could check around with your neighbours or mates to see if anyone upgraded from Sky to Sky+ - they might have an unused Sky box in the garage.

But if you are going to stay off Sky subscriptions anyway you might as well get a Freesat box or FreesatHD box - it will make your life easier than mucking about with "add extra channels" malarky.
