just wondering if anyone else noticed how few houses seem to be festooned with flashing bright lights in the build-up to Xmas this year?

in previous years every second house looked like a minature Vegas.

is it just my imagination, or are there much fewer of them this year?:(

It's all the people trying to not draw attention to their houses in case they have to pay the property tax.

I blame the bankers, the IMF & the Germans.

There. Thread ruined. It'll save the moany fuckers the bother.

There does seem to be fewer around. I wonder if it's people just trying to cut down on the ESB bill or are people not really feeling the Christmas spirit this year?

And civil servants, EBS workers, people who live in one off houses in the countryside & travellers.

Not where I live. When I stand in my hall it's like there's a fire engine parked outside my house with the amount of shít my neighbors have up.

Heard on the radio this morning, some young one was boasting that St. Vincent de Paul would be paying her electricity bill for the bazillion lights on her house.

No planes have landed on the road where my house is this year so there must be less lights.

That's not from the xmas lights. It's the shine of the fake tan from the douches on Tallafornia.

Waste of time and money, I have no lights up at all. I didn't even bother getting a Christmas tree this year. One present each for the wife and the kids, a bit of Christmas dinner and then a roadtrip if the weather is reasonably good.

Yeah there do seem to be less lights this year, thank god.

Christmas 2011 - good taste FTW.

PS: I bet that if you visit areas heavily infested by skangers you still see plenty of cheap, sh1tty-looking lights all over the place.

That's an American term. We just say arseholes or gobsh!tes here.

the consensus appears to be there's much less of them.

I agree. Most of my neighbours have lights up and the majority of them are on the dole. On the road behind mine, EVERY single house has lights up and they've all gone completely overboard with them. Its like they're all trying to out do each other or something. I swear there's not one house without lights on that road.

Conversely, I notice that it's in "better off" areas in my experience. Tends to be the late middle aged couple with no children at home that do it.
