Hi Younganne, I thought your comments on El C's log about the effect of the marathon on you were really interesting... Hopefully 'naming that fear' will help you overcome it... Along with training of course :).

I'm late to the party here but will follow with interest!

Thanks Anna, it took me a while to realise what was going on, a not so good marathon experience (finished in 4.00 hr but first time "hitting the wall" & stopped for first time ever in a race and had to really talk myself into continuing), followed by various viruses and injuries and no interest in running.

Tried to come back a few times but decided i wanted to run again about this time last year with the Boyne 10k as my race to see how far i had fallen. Thankfully the body has held up and the mind is willing and able.

Finishing in Rotterdam at sub 4 will be a bonus, marathon no 6 for me so hoping it will be a good one.

Went for rub down on Tuesday evening after work and thankfully he says legs are in good nick. I had a niggle on my mid back section and when he started working on it discovered all along either side of my spine is tender so he taped it up instead of poking too much at it. You could play noughts & crosses on the big # on my back.

    Wednesday 30th March
    Plan 1m easy, 5 x 1m @ MP 2min rec, 1m easy
    Actual 0 - Restday

took rest day Wed as I was just knackered.

    Thursday 31 March
    Plan 4m easy
    Actual 1m easy, 5 x 1m @ MP 2min rec, 1m easy

Running was not appealing to me at all and I had to really talk myself into this run(which is a bit scary 10 days out).

I was in Navan at my mams so by 6.30 I had persuaded myself to go because if I went home it wouldn't have been done. I ran to the park and did 4 laps and ran home.

I didn't like this run at all, my body is tired and I just could not settle into MP sections, they were too fast, pulled back, too slow etc. I just couldn't get any feel for them and I had to rely on the watch to get me into the correct zone. Relieved to get it down but did nothing for the confidence.

    Wu & Cd 9.55, 9.42
    MP @ 8.57, 8.54, 8.58, 8.57, 8.55.

    Total 8.10m in 1:15.23 @ 9.18

    Friday 1st April
    Plan Rest
    Actual 4m easy

Headed out in the galeforce winds and rain for this with the dog, but felt if I didn't do it early I'd be fighting it all day.
At least its done now. I didn't pay any attention to the watch but just ran by feel and again today I feel tired. I'm sleeping well so not going to stress about if yet. Last mile was very tough into head wind and even the dog was struggling!!

    10.00, 10.00, 9.55, 9.57

    Total 4.06 in 40:27 @ 9.58

    WTD: 16.56
    MTD: 176.41March
    4.06 April

    Saturday 2nd April
    Plan 5m easy
    Actual 5m easy

After being away all day with things to do, I took the dog and headed for the usual back road in the rain. No wind today and a pep in my step. Much better run today.

    9.50, 9.44, 9.51, 9.48, 9.48, 9.49
    Total 5.32m in 0:52:21 @ 9.50

    Sunday 3rd April
    Plan 9m easy
    Actual 9m easy

Another evening run in the rain but nothing could make me feel bad on this run. Decided to leave the dog at home as I had a terrible fear off falling over her, as yesterday she kept stopping to shake off the wet and I stumble a few times as she's only a little thing!!
I went to the turn off at 2.6m and ended up running up and back on a lovely straight section a few more time(5 or 6, cant remember) to bring me up to the required distance with out having to keep adding hill.

By the last 2m I was soaked through and the water was pouring off my cap but nothing could deter how good I was feeling!
    a lovely run!!:D

    9.56, 9.55, 9.48, 9.53, 9.55, 9.46, 9.44, 9.40, 9.40
    Total 9.10m in 1:29:15 @ 9.49

I am really looking forward to Rotterdam next week but dreading it at the same time. Its taken 3 years after London 2013 to get me back to a place where I could seriously consider running a marathon.

My PB is from Dublin 2012 and the experience I had on that day was something else. It was a great day.

My true wish for next week is that I can have an equally good day if not a better one.

I have followed the plan with an odd missed run here and there but nothing serious. Thankfully no major injuries, just the usual niggles for an auld one!!;)
Myles has given me a great plan that took into consideration my history and injuries that have happened (as every good coach should) and we worked with what we had. I have every confidence in the plan and in Myles since he started training me in 2012. I trust the training completely.

Realistically having a great run and finishing strong for a sub 4 would be enough for me, but to put times on goals

    A goal - sub 3.55(BQ)
    B goal - sub 3:57:46(PB)
    C Goal - sub 4

If everything goes to plan on the day, I don't see why I can't achieve the PB, not sure if A is reaching for too much too soon, but we have to reach in order to achieve.:D

Thanks Myles for the great plan.
