    Hi

    I have been having a problem with my bike were my gears seem to be sliping, I don’t be changing the gear but when I a pendling they seem to skip, hard to explain but the seem to stick and try to change gear but don’t change and slip in and out and It seem to miss a full turn of the chain.

    Does any one know what I mean and if so do u know what I need to do to fix it?

    It could be that your rear derailleur needs adjustment but it sounds more likely that your chain or cassette* (more likely both) are worn and need replacement. What sort of mileage have you done on the current chain and cassette? Do you clean and oil the chain at all?

    *Cogs on your rear wheel.

    two years, you probably need a new chain, cassette, and chain rings, the jockey wheels on the rear mech could be giving up as well

    A guess at the prices of chains etc for standard bicycles;
    basic 8 speed (Sachs) chain; approx Euro 16.-
    7 or 8 speed sprocket freewheel block; Euro 20. + approx.
    the modern 7/8 speed sprocket cassette is about Euro 25.
    Special tools are needed to replace blocks and cassettes so you are as well getting them replaced by your bikeshop.

    Another cause I found with slipping/sloppy gearchanging on a modern inexpensive steel bicycle was corrosion on the internal gearchange cables. The problem was solved by lubricating the inner cable, e.g. lightly soak a small piece of non fluffy cloth and draw the cable through it
