A friend of mine wants to register his trade mark; what is the going rate for this? He said he found one place doing it for 700e but is not sure is this offer too good to be true or a complete rip off.

Depends on a lot of things.

TM Registration can either be for Ireland and/or Community (EU) Wide or in some other country depending on preference

There are costs associated with checking whether it's registrable, whether there are similar marks etc.

There are also costs for the registration itself, not legal costs, which can be significant depending on a range of factors

Hi - I recently registered a Trademark - I found lots of info here:

    http://www.patentsoffice.ie/en/trademark.aspx

I got a number of quotes from Trade Mark agents and some advice, cost ranged from €500-1500 to process a single mark in 3 classifications- Ireland only - EU wide significantly more (the €500 did not include the Patents Office charges - €210 in my case, with €177 registration if sucessfull)

I decided to go it alone do my own searches and apply for the Trademark. I found the Patents office very helpful when I called them. Trademark currently sitting in Journal..fingers crossed.

You can do basic searches here:

    http://www.patentsoffice.ie/eregister/Query/TMQuery.aspx

If you are unsure though it is a good idea to speak with an agent - they will guide you along and a Trademark can be essential to a business.

Arm yourself with all the details then make an informed decision.
