My girlfriend just bought a new tv that is "saorview approved" when I plugged it into the cable (she has regular cable coming from an ntl box in the wall) and tuned the tv all I got was the analogue stations we always got, rte,bbc,c4,e4 etc.. No sign of rte hd or rte news etc.

Can any one shed some light and offer some help?

    Thanks

You are tuning the UPC analogue VHF feed from the cable.

2 things you need to do:

To get Saorview, you need a UHF aerial (even a small desktop one will do in a strong signal area). You may need to get a cable combiner so the cable feed and aerial can be combined onto one cable into the TV.

Then you'll need to use the TV's digital tuner to get the stations - This may be in a different menu level to the tuner you've already used.

Saorview is terrestrial broadcast tv transmitted from RTENL masts, you'll need a UHF aerial to receive it. Your cable connection won't work.

    Take a look here: http://www.saorview.ie/make-the-switch/

Wrong forum you should be in the terrestrial forum, this is for satellite, but to answer: You need an aerial to pick up saorview,it's simply Irish tv going digital and the old analogue signal is being replaced.

You plugged in your UPC cable and got the UPC service.

Rule of buying new tv-read the manual;):D

    No, UHF aerial only.
