    Hi there
I'm looking to buy a 2005 s40, I still can't decide on a 1.8 petrol or the 2 l diesel, any feedback would be much appriciated i.e problems costs. Also most have around 100 miles is this very high? Do these cars give much hassle at this age? A guy I know has the 1.8 petrol and it's e c u has been giving problems is this common?
    Thanks

    Hi,

I just sold my 2005 volvo s40. It was solid as a rock and never gave me a days trouble until, the solenoid pack for the ABS and the alternator went this year costing me 1200 euro so It was a motoring annus horribulus to put it mildly.

These are well documented problems with the s40 and although I was badly burnt last year I am still considering getting a 2009 model as there is no mid range family saloon to touch them for spec and comfort in my eyes. I was getting about 27mpg out of my 1.8 petrol which was not bad considering its all city driving we do.

    Hope this helps...

I've a Volvo S40 diesel 2 litre 2006,had a few glitches over the years.Mainly due to the computerisation of nearly every function in relation to the car.Car bulbs tend to go fairly frequently, had a problem(ongoing) in relation to the electronic car locking. Not the best space wise, bit lacking in same. But on the whole it's a super car, extremely economical and sturdy/safe.
