Both O2 and VF are out of stock. My sister says Apple are limiting availability. Is there any truth in this?

I thought if there was there'd be a thread about it here.

Yes they very much are. If they limit supply the demand will stay high.

Surely the lead up to Christmas is the one time of year you shouldn't have to force up the demand.

Apple makes its money on its brand, nothing improves the desirability of a brand more than exclusivity.

So anyone know when they're planning on releasing it again or is this limit going to be maintained and we all have to join waiting lists.

Apple never have to force up the demand, the demand is always there. They just limit the numbers so that quarterly sales figures remain uniform (Christmas or not).

Your going to have to go on a waiting list or get one directly from them (within about 2 weeks)

I thought it was down to the shortage on flash memory, but also that they would be stock piling for release on china mobile which has a fair few customers. Could be totally wrong though

How does that work? I buy from them a sim free one for a god awful extortionate price?

Pretty much, your going to be paying for it anyway if you want one, one way or another.

If you buy it upfront you loose a large chunk of change once through Apple or on Prepay. If you buy it from a carrier on billpay you loose a large chunk of change over 12 or 24 months.

Yeah but couldn't be arsed messing around with a prepay though. Way better value for calls and data on post pay and I don't have to worry about running out of credit.

    Android it is then.

Lets not make any rash decisions ;) That's a mistake i wouldn't advise you to make!

I'd keep an eye on Adverts, loads of new iPhone 4's going for about €300 to €350, or a 4S for between €400 and €500. Fine you will have the initial cost of the handset and the hassle of looking for one on the network you desire. However if your going in to take a sim only bill it will usually be a lot cheaper per month and the contract significantly shortened if your not taking an expensive handset off them aswell.

Yeah I'll probably take the holidays to think it over. You see I was settled on the Android for a while and my sister talked me around. Now with this situation I'm inclined to go with my first choice and avoid all the nonsense with Apple. But you're right I'll probably wait until the new year.

Not true about post pay being worse value.

On Three - 20euro a month min spend on prepay gets you free unlimited data, free unlimited texts, free three to three calls and free calls to all networks on the weekends. only thing you pay for is weektime calls to other netowrks. What I do is I just use skype for those whenever I am near computer.

Some great deals for sim only 30 day contract too, which is what I'll be doing next time.

They appear to have them back with O2 in 16GB. Better get my skates on this time :)

Is the difference between the 4 and the S really all that much? Will I just go fo the 4?

Some notables (whether you think they're worth it is subjective)
    - Siri
    - 8MP camera
    - Extra year of OS feature support than iP4
