When I was buying my Leupold (since sold) I had a choice of either Boone & Crockett or varmint. I went with Boone and Crockett and would again, as the photo of the varmint looked very slim indeed and may, IMO, be tough to see at night

Anybody any experience with the Leupold Varmint reticle on a magnum.

Mate had vxl3 with that reticle, very thin ,good in the middle of the day in good light, disaster at dawn/dusk,leave it where it is unless its for nothing, good target reticle.

I used one for lamping and thought it was great ... yes it's fine but I had no problem with placement out to and a little past 200 meters.

I have one on my VX-III.

MOST of the time it's great. Grand for lamping.
Awful for low light or in stormy (rain, fog) weather...

No good for rabbits on a summers evening then.

Oh no, it's PERFECT for rabbits on a summer's evening, that's what it's designed for....

    Even at dusk.

Don't let me put you off it, it's good at duck for that type of thing.
I comparing it to Nightforce etc. and it's not in that league.

I would class it as better than simmons, hawke + burris as regards glass.

With any reticle you're going to get a trade off.
I had a Schmidt with #8 ret. Was great for goats and foxing, crap for rabbits.

The varmint hunter will be good for rabbits (I have one, and it is)
