Volvo mechanic Kilkenny

My 2006 S40 has a whine coming from the engine bay and a "power system service urgent" message on the dash. I'm living down in Kilkenny city but usually get the car serviced in an Indy up in Dublin. I think it's an alternator issue and I'm reluctant to chance driving it to Dublin in case the alternator goes mid journey. Can anybody recommend a Volvo specialist in Kilkenny or failing that a mechanic who I could get to have a look.

    Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for the offer. My wife's boss has recommended somebody just around the corner so I think I'll head there. To be honest I'm reluctant to drive any distance until I know what I'm dealing with.

Alternator is most likely knackered, you'll need a new one.

1.6 and 2.0D shares the same alternator as the Ford Focus C-Max, Kuga etc.

    Part No: 0 986 049 071

Ring a few Ford Garages and get a price including part exchange

Nah, get it repaired, fraction of the cost and a better outcome.

Alternator failure on these is a common issue, aftermarket repair component has been modified to address the original weakness, new units don't have this upgraded part thus will fail again.

    Just my tuppence worth... ;)

Repaired? ... Its only 150-160 euros when you return the original part.

    *Edit* ..well here anyway. ;)
