Yer man in McGrath (think that's his name) Clonmel is selling a double barrel Side by side with Toy Shells.
Has weight and feel of a real gun and comes in a carry case.

he already has the double barrel shotgun , great toy i have to say, but only for rough shooting !
I often bring him deer stalking so it has to be a rifle with scope , yep he knows what he wants.
He is 9 so must be a safe toy.
Will keep looking but thank you for the tips.

agree with the airsoft sugestion. They do great replica bolt action rifles. I fired a remmi 700 with black stock and stainless colour barrel, bipod and scope in a shop in kildare. Was kinda cool for a toy and you knew exactly what gun it was when you seen it. Think it was about 200 quid brand new

Have a look around for a cheap second hand airsoft bolt action and make it so it won't fire the BBs. I'm sure someone on the airsoft forum could point you in the right direction.

When I was a kid my Dad made me a 'shotgun' from the stock of an old air rifle he came by and some pipe. It was great craic!

Thats a good idea. possably take out a componant part like a spring or the likes and you can keep it untill you think he is old enough to actually use it and put it back in

I'd go with an airsoft and just dont give him the pellets, or treat it like a real gun and only give it to him with pellets wwhen your there to supervise. The damage on this isnt bad http://www.airsofteire.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=1035&category_id=23&manufacturer_id=0&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=26
If you had a cheap .22 scope lying around at home you could fore it up on it!

Depending on what age he is, Smyths have a toy rifle, with scope. It is a cap gun, and I would guess for between 2 to 8 year olds.

+1 on the Airsoft gun again depends on age & how much you planned on spending too!!

(Dual airsofter/shooter here:P)If you went to an airsoft shop and asked them to remove the spring that would make it safe for the little lad and allow him to work the bolt back and forth because some of them can be quite stiff with the spring in, how much is your budget for the whole package roughly?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 270 ✭✭iwsf

Budget is not unlimited unfortunately, the bigger the kids get the bigger the needs and he has a teenage brother  and a third on the way
the Smyths rifle , yep we had it as well and lasted about 2 days
    boys and their toys ....
Will look arround so thank you all for the suggestions

    Merry christmas

Why not buy a rifle stock and attach a hollow bar on it and stick a cheap scope on it as well? If u really want the real MCoy, will look like the real thing and won't cost u an arm and a leg.

Kids today LOL I remember when a stick with a clothes peg as a sight on it was the dogs bollox.....
