Wouldn't be Christmas without the Big Fat Quiz Of The Year.

Only panelists listed so far are Jonathan Ross, David Walliams and David Mitchell... and no mention of Noel Fielding! :(
Jamie Oliver and Eddie Izzard are among the stars who have signed up to appear in 2011's Big Fat Quiz of the Year.

The duo are two of the celebrities joining Channel 4's annual round-up of the last 12 months, the broadcaster has announced.

Oliver and Izzard will be joined by Miranda Hart, who has also never appeared on the show before.

The programme, again hosted by Jimmy Carr, will also feature Jonathan Ross, David Walliams and David Mitchell as team members.

Further celebrity guests are expected to appear to set the teams questions about the year. Subjects covered are likely to include politics and celebrity gossip.

Other festive programming on Channel 4 this year includes a Christmas edition of Coach Trip and new Vernon Kay-fronted gameshow Home for the Holidays.

The Big Fat Quiz of the Year will air on December 27 at 9pm on Channel 4.

Nothing will ever top the 2006 episode, with the Goth Detectives and David Walliams' tantrum!

I'll give it a look, but it's been missing the magic for me the past few years

    I hate David Williams.

    Thats his actual name.

Thats his birth name alright, but the whole world knows him as David Walliams, and I think he really lights up any show he appears on, having said that I can only watch him in small doses :))

    I like Walliams..

.. daft, over the top and irritating.. yet his constant mission of getting answers wrong on quiz shows can be hilarious.

Don't like Hart, Izzard or Oliver. Not really a fan of Walliams but I prefer him to bloody Noel Fielding.

I can't stand the sight of either David Walliams or Miranda Hart, so with those two on board, it's going to be a Big Fat Nothing for me.:(

By the sounds of things - Hart, Izzard and Oliver will only be on guest bits for a minute or two tops.

    They're not panelists.

David Mitchell and Johnathon Ross is enough for me to give it a look, hopefully the other 3 are quality.

What odds on Sarah Millican to appear on this. That unfunny woman must have a great agent as she seems to be on tv every time I turn it on

Looking forward to this show. I never miss it. Carr, Ross and Mitchell will make the show. Sarah Millican is the only female stand-up that i enjoy so hoping she'll be there.

Most overrated British comedian of the last 40 years, his camp, comedy "schtick" belongs in a Carry On film.

She is great, though Jo Brand would be my favourite.

This was pretty awful last year, and David Williams is a complete tosser so I think I'll be giving this a miss.

Needs more Russell Brand and Noel Fielding. :(

I can't stand Sarah Milican. 'Oh look at me I'm fat'

Watching it now and I am enjoying with the exception of two individuals. David Walliams and Miranda Hart are painfully unfunny

Her and that tosser Michael McIntyre. sigh

    Awful this year..

.. could barely tell David Mitchell was there.

I enjoyed Hart and Walliams tbh.. but poor selection of panelists really!

    A) Knob
    B) Willy
    C) Deliberately wrong answer
    D) All of the above

Yes, the deliberate wrong answer thing is more tiresome than Lee Evans or Jason Byrne

While it was tiresome.. they had more input (whether you found it funny or not) in one round than the other panelists in the whole show.

Ross and Oliver were awful.. and Izzard and Mitchell (who should have been great) were even worse!

Turned into the David Williams show. He wouldn't shut up and let anyone get a word in. He's not funny in the slightest either.
What the hell was Jamie Oliver doing there?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,272 ✭✭✭Captain Graphite

Can't stand Jamie Oliver. Show would have been much better if he wasn't there. Even on the rare occasion he tried to be funny he was a total flop. Seriously why the hell did Channel 4 think it'd be a good idea to have him on it? He's like the English equivalent of Craig Doyle; unbearably smug, painfully wooden and possessing an extraordinarily punchable face.

Other than that it was ok; David Walliams and Miranda Hart didn't annoy me as much as I thought they would. I love David Mitchell but he was a lot quieter than usual; if they'd given him more airtime instead of wasting it on Oliver it would have worked out much better.

Presumably your getting at something along the lines of "hes a wanker for changing it"? Actors arent allowed registed with the same name as someone else so he changed it.

    Either way, I like him.

Seemingly posters on a UK forum hated the show also.

Getting all the answers wrong every question is boring and very predictable and then they get two very unlikeable individuals to do this. A decent comedian would have been able to make a joke with a correct answer.

I imagine that with better editing you would have seen a much better show.

    poor

There's only so much they can have to work with tbh. Mitchell can be excellent given the right people to bounce off but Ross and Jamie Oliver gave nothing. Walliams and Hart weren't much better, giving the wrong answer with something to bounce off would have been fantastic. As for Izzard, never "got" him, this show didn't change anyway.

Miranda Hart though, don't understand her popularity at all, I'd watch Brendan O'Carroll before I'd watch her.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,070 ✭✭✭Tipsy McSwagger

Noel Fielding makes everything 25% better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,807 ✭✭✭speedboatchase

I've never understood Miranda Hart's appeal and she was just awful last night. Walliams I felt was alright, but you could actually Miranda imitate him once he started getting a few laughs, such as when she started pulling the same faces as him. It really says something when Jamie Oliver was actually funnier than her last night.

Definitely needs Noel Fielding back next year

ps. The repeated Richard Keys and Andy Gray? Embarrassing.

Saw 5 minutes and there wasn't a single laugh to be hard. Everyone seemed to be trying far too hard and the whole wrong answer thing was funny the first time but since then it's just been tiresome.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,798 ✭✭✭goose2005

Worst. Big Fat Quiz of the Year. Ever. Miranda Hart was OK. What was Eddie Izzard doing on it?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 15,721 Mod ✭✭✭✭dfx-

Getting it deliberately wrong is ok once, but after 25 questions over two hours and every other similar show he's done, there's an end of a tether.

I think Mitchell would've been a good partner for Walliams, it might have brought his fury and frustration/protestation nature into full glare and not be hammered into the quiet corner by the overbearing Ross, Hart or Walliams characters.

Switched off halfway through, Walliams was doing my head in.

I try to watch this every year, but last night was the pitts to be fair :(

I'd be a pretty big fan of Mitchells comedy, and Izzard as an actor. But those two seriously did not work well together last night. Just sat there like two good little boy's, answering all their questions correctly...

Walliams & that chick bugged the tata's off me  Didn't find it funny when they got their first 4 questions wrong, and didn't find it funny when they done the same for the next 36...

Jamie Oliver is just an unfunny tw@t, and shouldn't have been left next or near that show...

Only thing I laughed at, was Jonathan Ross poking fun of williams weight :p That didn't go down to well with Williams by the looks of things.....

Show seriously needs an injection of Noel Fielding, or someone as equally left of field next year me thinks....

Also, am I the only one thst finds Jimmy Carrs laugh incredibly annoying & forced??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,075 ✭✭✭IamtheWalrus

I had the misfortune of sitting through 4 hours of the recording of this. None of the panelists came across as funny. It was childish. Most of Jimmy Carr's jokes fell flat. I expect that they 'upped' the laughter for most of his jokes.

The wrong answer joke wasn't funny the first time. Miranda Hart was embarrassingly unfunny. Mitchell and Izzard were ok but should have been better. Felt sorry for Oliver. He was out of his depth as he isn't a 'comedian'. I met them all in he toilets at one of the breaks. I should have told them that the show wasn't funny.

It was forced at the recording. He would do his laugh then straight away his face would return to serious.

I remember before someone pointing out his laugh (think it was on 9 out of 10 cats) and making a big deal of it and ever since then I find he puts it on and makes it even more noticeable than before.

It's the same thing isn't it,a man dressing as a woman to get laughs???

Didn't really want to watch this considering last year didn't leave a good impression on me but the GF wanted to.

Lol, Walliams said a penis / gay innuendo joke...............again.

Oliver was out of his league and was stiff, bit of an odd choice having him there in the first place.

The group who get the wrong answer all the time gag is really bloody old and is the biggest downfall of this show every year for me.

Carr's laugh was extremely forced, was never as noticeable as this along with him returning to a serious face immediately. I feel embarrased when some of his jokes fall flat on these shows as I really do enjoy his stand-up.

Only person who made me laugh the most was Mitchell who, throughout the show, had less and less time.

They really need to cut out the shìt, start pairing people up for proper chemistry and get rid of the "random answers" gag. Once or twice is fine but constantly stops it being random and just predictable & flat.

I'm glad I didn't waste my time watching it. "Universally panned" seems to fit.:(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 99 ✭✭sarah.

    Absolute drivel.
The 'getting all the answers wrong' joke was just too much for me.
It may be the 'quiz of the year' but it was by far the worst thing I've watched all year, complete disappointment!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 854 ✭✭✭Caraville

Yeah it was so disappointing :(

No idea why Jamie Oliver was on it, and the more I see David Walliams the less I like him.
