Meindl Air Revolution Lite or Scarpa SL?

Have a voucher for Jackson Sports, need to use it today or tomorrow - last year's present! Anyway, had Meindl Island Pro for the past few years, but they are coming to the end of their life, one of the lace eyelets has just burst. Might get some repair job and retire them for the occasional crampon use, but gotta buy new ones and these both in my price range and on sale.

The main issue for me would be water resistance. Walk in the SW, where the rain rarely stops and mountains often come with raised bog and streams, often even on the upper stretches, so constantly standing in water. The Island Pros were great, feet stayed dry in streams. So anyone out there know which might be best?

    Hi Conor,

I have that exact pair of Meindl's and I can't recommend them enough. I tried on many boots to replace my old Meindl air rev 2.0's which I got about 6 years out of. I had bought a pair of Mammut boots and after 3 days walking around the house in them I brought them back. Just didn't feel right.

I bought my lites in Cotswolds up the north and the difference in feeling was ten fold. They are super comfortable, tough and so far completely waterproof.

I first bought them for a 2 week trek holiday in Switzerland last summer and I crossed many streams and had some very wet days on the trails and no problems. I have also used them in snow and no issues. I have a pair of manta's what sh*t gets serious in winter :D

For me its Meindle all the way... For a 3-4 season boot.
4+ season then scraps manta's for our climate.

Great. Thanks for all that. Think I will go for them. Started off 3 years ago with the Meindl Island Pros and have never worn anything else, they are a bit heavy so will be interesting to see how the lighter boot feels. Will keep the MIPs anyway, they are not totally gone, they will be reshod and semi-retired for use around the upper Reeks and winter fun!

It just so happens I was in JS yesterday an my annual Xmas jolly to Belfast. I enquired about their refund policy and it's all excellent for the likes of us down south.

Buy the boots, wear them around the house for a week if any niggles wrap them up and post back for a full refund. Basically you have nothing to loose.

Let us know his you get on with them.

Will do. Ordered them this morning. So knowing Jackson Sports I'll probably get them later today!

Must try the old Meindl Island Pros with crampons. Have Grivels with that lever in the rear and the boots have no well defined welt in them bar a small dimple where the heel protector meets the leather, so hope I won't be slipping out of them every step.
