Emergency Tax

I have a few quick questions as I know nothing about tax and any help would be great.

I am currently working part time earning €8.65 an hour. I started work back in June this year and it appears I am paying emegency tax. From June to September, I worked on average 15 hours a week but since mid September I have been working on average 25 hours a week.

1-Anybody know what % tax rate I should be paying?
2-How do I go about taking myself off the emergency tax and also claiming the tax back?
3- How long does it usually take to receive the tax back?
4 -Am I entitled to any social welfare benefit (please note I am a director of a couple of companies but I do not obtain any salary from this)?

    Thanks in advance!:)

If you are a single person and this is your only source of income for the year; you can earn 16500 euro from a normal paye employment without paying any PAYE. This based on using the personal tax credit of 1650 and paye credit of 1650. Devide the 16500 yearly figure by 52 to get your weekly tax free amount. This works out at 317 euro you can earn without paying PAYE.

Ring the PAYE 1890 number to check if your employment was registered and your credits and rate band applied to it. If not, give them the PAYE registered number of the company you work for and ask them to move all your credits and rate band to it. This will only relate to 2012 onwards at this late stage of the year.

In order to get your emergency tax back, you can wait until you get your P60 in January or February and request a review using the online PAYE anytime service. If you input your bank details and your review is not pulled for manual checking, (as a certain amount are) then you will have any refund due in your account within 5 working days of you claiming online. You can also send your P60 to your local office but you could be waiting several weeks for any refund to be processed during one of the busiest periods of the year.

So long as there are PRSI deductions on your payslips you should be entitled to some benefits. However this is not my area so you may want to check out the DSP website. Also the Revenue website has a pretty comprehensive guide to all the queries above. Just look under the personal tax tab.
