Air Flow Meter & NCT

Apologies for yet another NCT thread.

Just booked my car in for an NCT in the morning. Its a 02 Laguna diesel. Am I correct in thinking that since the air flow meter is gone and I have the light on on the dash that its an automatic failure and they won't do the smoke test?

Bascially just putting the car through the test to get a list of whats wrong as opposed to spending needless euro's in advance.

Why not get the air flow meter done before hand if you know that was broke?

I had bought a new one but it turned out it was the wrong type and they didn't have the correct one in stock so just waiting to get it in. Also money is tight at the moment and as it's not overly effecting the running of the car (granted power is down a little) I'm not in a major hurry to get it done. I figure getting the list of faults from the NCT is a better option than getting a garage to do a pre NCT check. Especially if I'll be getting them to change the air flow meter at some stage. May as well do everything at one time.

Just wanted to make sure that they'd still complete the whole test even if it's failed from the start. If that makes sense?

If it fails from the start, they don't bring it into the center and give you a refund. At least in my case, happened to me twice. First time was smoke test and second was it overheating in the middle of the test. They just give you the car back and give you a refund, so I don't think you'll be out of pocket in that sense if it fails from the get go.

It may seem to be runing ok but a non functioning afm wil be having a knock on effect on other parts such as clogging egr valves, cat, causing excess deposit build up etc so you could well cost yourself more money the longer you leave it.
