    hi

I have a friends laptop that freezes when shutting down. it is a sony vaio vgn-cr220e. he had windows vista 32 bit on it. i went to upgrade it to windows 7 but had problems with the product key. so i decided to install windows xp as i did not have the correct version of vista. all that is installed on the laptop is windows xp and a most of the drivers.

my best guess is that one of the drivers is causing the problem but i would appreciate any input

    Regards

if your copy of windows 7 is genuine call up microsoft... i had a similar problem with the license key for a 3 license windows 7 home premium upgrade pack. The guy in microsoft updated the system so that the code now works.

If the laptop wasn't made for XP well then chances are there are some drivers you may never be able to find, from rebuilding VAIOs I know from expierience driver support is horrendous. Either put back on Vista or 7, or try find the driver that may be causing the system not to turn off (Which may not be possible). Even something as simple as integrated webcam/mic could cause problems,
