IPhone 3G very slow

    Hi,
    I have a 3G IPhone (version 4.2.1), it's jailbroken and unlocked.

It's becoming slow- press home button- sometimes nothing happens, open an app/settings/e-mail and it can take a long time.
I have following on it so it's not nearly full:
    39 apps
    capacity 6.8GB (2.6 available)
    108 songs
    0 videos
    39 photos

How can I clean my IPhone, which may help clean it up? I don't want to have to unlock it again. If I do a reset (settings, general) will this help?
    What else can I do?
I don't mind if all apps are wiped and i have to install them again.
The person who unlocked it for me told me that it's not safe to upgrade my phone anymore because of something he did (which I don't mind).

    cheers,
    Pa.

4.2.1 is the last OS for 3G so you can't upgrade more.

What you can do is a few things, the easiest being disable Spotlight Search.
To disable spotlight search, go to Settings -> General -> Spotlight Search and deselect all items.

Also, do a hard-reset. Hold Power button and Home buttons down until you see the red slider. Continue holding until phone reboots, once you see the apple logo let go of the buttons.
    Do this twice.
This will "rebuild" the os and should speed things up a bit.

There are more things to do but that means you need to go into the inner workings of the phone and might mess things up quite a bit...
There is also the option to downgrade to 3.x

The unlocker probably unlocked it using ultrasnow so it's not "properly" unlocked and if you downgrade the jailbreak and unlock will vanish and will have to be done again.

If your phone is jailbroken try overclocking, its reversible so its worth a shot

    Thanks.
Does it drain the battery by much?
