The city hall is a nice building.
Try the Manchester Martyrs Memorial in St Joseph's Cemetery, Moston.

am originaly from manchester and live on the border of it in cheshire so know quite a lot of places, but it depends what style are into.
what is the speciality are looking for- buildings?,animals?,landscapes/ beautiful scenery?, places of public interest?

does it have to be strictly within manchester,or woud be willing to go in or around the border of it?

woud strongly recommend checking out winter hill, but will need to be fairly fit to do the walking.
winter hill,in horwich [which is seen as part of manchester borough or something like that,if am not mistaken] is famous,as its where the north wests TV signal comes from.
the actual tv pole on it looks amazing at night time as it has red lights going all the way up it,so night shots woud be best, with a good zoom its possible to get shots from the middlebrook retail park,as have done so with mine.

sale water park, which is not far from the trafford centre, very nice scenery,
lots of bird wildlife and a huge lake though its got some algae problems at the moment and no boats are allowed to use it so its not as popular as it usualy is.

    tatton park.
technicaly its in knutsford, but its a neighbour to manchester.
it has incredible scenery and a lot of deer.
its 'closed' at the moment because its winter, but thats BS as the gates are still open and anyone can still go in.

the urbis,in picadilly is a very interestingly shaped building.

theres the lowry centre, which is on salford quay,a very unique looking building not far from picadilly and old trafford, sort of in the middle of them both.

there is the christmas markets in picadilly somewhere at the moment, not sure where exactly but know a lot of people who have been in the past few weeks, may find interesting shapes and colours there to take shots of,there is also the big wheel in picadilly-but am not sure if that is still there.

20 mins on a train from the airport to the city centre. most trains going to any main city pass through picadilly which is manchester central rail station. Oxford road, victoria, deansgate are three other central rail stations.
Castlefield is quite a nice area in the city, nice canals and "rosie and jim" boats as i refer to them as. A wonder around the city centre will throw up a few photo ops, especially with the christmas markets in town. They are all over the city centre but the one at the town hall is where you want to be.
There are always a few street performers knocking about also.
Oh and london camera exchange is right in picadily gardens right next to "the amusements" should you need to pick up and clothes / cards etc.
As mentioned in another post sale water park is quite nice and if you are driving it is near the airport.
Hope you get some nice snaps and do share when you come back :)
