UK Imports

I was just looking through Carzone at Titanium X Mondeo's and all of them were UK imports. Is it possible to get a Titanium X Mondeo (Brand new) over here ?
And, what's the big deal with UK cars. A mate of mine was telling me I should stay well away from a UK import. Apart from the risk of it being clocked, what should you look out for ?

It's the type of people that sell uk imports that you need to be afraid of. Lads buying up auction fodder, ex write offs, clocked cars etc and selling them here.

As far as I can see, the only way to save a reasonable amount versus prices here, build in a nice margin, cover transportation is to buy a very cheap car in the first place.

Cheap usually means theres a reason. Same over here though.

The problem with the Titanium X Mondeo here is that it is too damn expensive new so they are rare.

And regarding UK imports, the same rules apply as buying one here. Irish cars can be clocked too.

Not all UK cars are a nightmare scenario. A lot of cars that are relatively recent would have come off lease. In some cases UK buyers look after their cars fastidiously.
History check and service record supporting mileage is a good start!

Utter tripe. Nonsense. Substantiate your claim or withdraw your sweeping generalisation.

No doubt there are some traders selling UK imports that your absurd generalisation apply to just as no doubt here are some traders selling Irish cars that consumers should be wary of.

As someone who has imported 2 x UK cars, buying an Irish or UK car has the same requirements for pre-purchase checks. UK cars might have had the added risks like saltly roads in winter or a perceived more difficulty in tracing history (easier in my experience).
Cars like the Titanium model Monde, especially diesel are attractive propositions to import from a cost & rarity point of view. Yes there will also be the risk that unscrupulous individuals will aim to squeeze even more from the deal by supplying dodgy versions of desirable cars but there is an equal risk of the unscrupulous people doing the same thing with Irish sourced cars.
SIMI & their members love scaremongering about issues with UK imports yet they engage in the practice of importing cars from the UK themselves. That's where a lot of the issues stem from, misinformation.
Do your checks & research, don't let the UK element put you off.

Of course everyone in this country isn't like that, but the op is looking for the pitfalls rather than the advantages.

I know a few garages who import cars from the uk who sell on condition rather than price. They don't get them for knock-down bargain prices though, When i sold cars, we would do cartell checks on potential trade-ins and there was a huge number of those that had discrepancies with mileage and in some cases accident damage.

Of course all uk cars aren't clocked, and Irish cars get crashed too.
