Im a couple of months into a weight routine and I want to ad cardio to it. But I really hate running. However i walk to work every day. Its 1 hour 20 mins there and sometimes i walk home. Would this walking be enough to constitute not going running?

Walking is how you get to places slowly. I wouldn't consider that cardio. Have you tried cycling?

why do you want to add cardio? technically speaking if you are increasing your muscle mass there is absolutely no need for cardio

that said, if for whatever reason you need the cardio and hate running then there are still many options:
    - elliptical
    - the bicycle usings hands only
    - regular bicycle outside
    - stationary bike
    - walking
    - swimming
    - playing anything like tennis or whatever
    - dancing
    - any classes
    - any activity where you move

Because i have a build up of fat around my waist. I read doing weights will help build core muscles but the fat will stay along with it. I want to do cardio so that i can still enjoy my cappucinos and cakes.

Bodybuilding is a very distinct pursuit, which is where I think the issues is coming in.

You just want to lose some fat, gain some muscle and look better with your clothes off right?

Of course it's cardio! May be low intensity depending on your weight, age, fitness levels etc but it is cardio! Walking for an hour and twenty minutes a day, throw in some resistance training and few sprints and your onto something!!!!!

I'm not going to get into a debate about what exactly cardio is. For me, walking wouldn't even put my heart rate into the recovery zone never mind the aerobic zone. For someone unfit or very sedentary it might raise their HR enough to call it cardio/aerobic exercise. However, it seems the OP just wants to burn off his cakes.

    Hi again Paco Rodriguez,

Bodybuilding / weight lifting also burns calories and if you are training correctly then it burns more calories than cardio over time. This is because muscle is an active tissue and even when you are sitting in your chair it requires energy, so you are constantly burning more and more calories evey day if you are adding more and more muscle to your body.

Also after a weight training session, your metabolism remains high for at least 24 hours and more.

Cardio is a one shot deal. While doing cardio you burn calories, but the second you stop you stop. Cardio is also something that your body gets used to and each next time you will burn less and less if you do the same thing.

Lastly, remember that getting rid of fat is 90% done in the kitchen and only 10% done in the gym.

    Best of luck.

But if he does cardio along with his weights he will burn more calories than just doing weights alone

Personally I subscribeMark Sisson´s thoughts on cardio. 2-5 hours in about the 50% zone walking (as our ancestors would have done)..It has as much effect on body composition without the inflammatory effects of chronic cardio (of which I am guessing you talking about)....Walking at a decent pace for hour a day is good cardio!

Your information is about 10 years outta date, bro.

I don't buy into the "ancestors" stuff that people float about, but this is a tried and tested method of burning bodyfat for everyone from the overweight individual to the elite bodybuilder!

Yeh in fairness I actually do feel silly saying the ancestors stuff. I just think it makes total sense!

If you think I have said something incorrect then by all means quote / put a link to a reference which proves my information "outdated". As you are unable to do so then your comment has no added value or meaning, because if people just shout "i'm right" without giving any reason you end up with the religious/sect nonsense and public abuse which happens nowadays.

It's been discussed numerous times here. You sound like an Internet forum pro. - I'm sure you'll be able to search and find it.

Essentially the role of EPOC is highly overstated and overplayed. HIIT has its uses and benefits but not necessarily for the reasons you've stated.

I have neither proposed EPOC nor HIIT in this thread, so I am not sure which imaginery world you are criticising me in.

If you think something I have said is incorrect, then quote that part and put a reference to information which proves it to be incorrect.
