If you can could you try boot and press f8 to boot into safemode (Might be a different F number) But if it works boot into safemode with networking download Malwarebytes anti malware and GMER Just google them to find them. Then run them in safemode and let them finish their scans if they find something remove it but if they dont then.Go to start menu and type "CMD" And run that then type CHKDSK as it might be a hardrive error. If this does not fix it please post here again also an easy fix might be to reinstall your OS.Sorry for my spelling as i am Dyslexic :)

Try unplugging your charger, and removing your battery. There should be some form of sliding clip to allow you to remove it.

Plug back in your charger, and see will it turn on. Obviously it won't be portable, but this will help you see if it is a battery problem.

I'm afraid I can't upload a pic as I am doing this on my phone!
    No error messages either
    Just the message
" we apologise for the inconvenience but windows shut down unsuccessfully in order to rectify this problem please choose on of following
    Safe mode
    Safe Mode with networking
    Last known configuration

If None chosen windows will start in 30 sec"

I have choosen all options and it looks like it's starting but then goes back to the message again

First thing I always try when this happens open up the laptop/computer and make sure everything is in their slots nice and firm, ram, grafics card, battery, etc.

Also, it's always handy to have a copy of hiren boot cd especially for situations like this, it's free with many program's for all your needs.

You can run it from cd or flash drive.

If you are running XP and if you still have your original XP Disc that came with the computer, you should be able to repair the existing installation without losing any of your data. I copied this text from michaelstevenstech.com and its exactly what i had to do in the past to fix problems like this.

Boot the computer using the XP CD. You may need to change the boot order in the system BIOS so the CD boots before the hard drive. Check your system documentation for steps to access the BIOS and change the boot order.
When you see the "Welcome To Setup" screen, you will see the options below
This portion of the Setup program prepares Microsoft
Windows XP to run on your computer:

To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER.

To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R.

To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3.

Press Enter to start the Windows Setup.

Do Not choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press R", (you Do Not want to load Recovery Console). I repeat, Do Not choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press R".

Accept the License Agreement and Windows will search for existing Windows installations.
Select the XP installation you want to repair from the list and press R to start the repair. If Repair is not one of the options, END setup.

Setup will copy the necessary files to the hard drive and reboot. Do not press any key to boot from CD when the message appears.
Setup will continue as if it were doing a clean install, but your applications and settings will remain intact.

Have you tried last know configuration?

Boghopper's suggestion is a good one. I've done it before using the same method. You won't lose any data.

There are more difficult steps we can take if that fails, in regard to trying to recover any vital viles you might need, before trying something like wiping the hard drive and starting from scratch.

If you don't have anything you need to save, a reinstall will take about 5 minutes of selecting options, and an hour or so of waiting. I'd only recommend that if your recovery didn't work and you don't have any data you need to recover.

I assume you don't have anything attached to your computer, like printers or extra hard drives or any other device which could be causing a problem.

Had you been getting any errors before this, or installed anything recently?

I think I found the cd. How do I do the BIOS change?
Sorry now people but I haven't clue

Most computers will tell you (briefly) which button it is when you start the computer. Something like, Press F2 to enter setup. Usually F2 or Delete.

I think on Dell computers if you press F12 as it is starting (keep tapping it every second or so. No need to go crazy on it) it will bring you to a one time change to boot configuration menu. You'd choose the cd/dvd option and follow the earlier instructions.

What type of computer do you have?

Did you try any of my suggestions just as a matter of interest?

Sorry guys, I found cd kinda followed boghoppers instructions
It scanned my files said some of them were "unreadable"
Restarted it and it looks good, just doing a virus scan now but it looks alot better than earlier.

Thank you all sooo much for your help
I'd loose my life if my laptop couldn't be fixed!
    Thank you all again xxxxx

Now would be an excellent time to back up some files. You can get a usb flash drive for less than a tenner in the likes of tesco. You can also email documents to yourself.

Some software you may want to try are Advanced System Care and microsoft security essentials

First is quite a good maintenance program for your computer. Second is good to prevent viruses and malware. I think they are already mentioned in the sticky thread of this forum.

    Edit: Hey! 5000 posts. :-)
