That time of year again. Anyone got any updates on iciness from Stocking Lane/Cruagh Road and southwards from there?

East coast to stay clear of the worst avoiding the wintry showers over the weekend - don't know more or how specific the conditions are in Wicklow.

Would have headed out today but would have been trying for ages to warm up plus the roads round here had that dodgy looking sheen early morning.

I'll try to get out tommorow, might head towards Batterstown. Doubt I'll be turning up on Sunday for the Christmas race.

Had planned on Cruagh - Johnnie Foxes yesterday lunch, but the wind was unreal so I wimped out. Might give the Sallygap a go tomorrow, though severe hangovers are forecast for the morning with cold sweats to follow. The MET 5 day forecast is showing 0 to -2 across Dublin and Wicklow tomorrow, with Sunday looking a bit better.

There was some frost on the roads around Greystones early this morning but all gone by 10am...

Frost free from Kilcoole up the Devil's Glen through Annamoe and around Laragh. Roundwood/Long hill and Kilmac all clear, but some very slippy conditions in the shade/any leaves or tractor mud.

It is a lot clearer out this way this evening without as much wind as last night so could be frosty early tomorrow. Plus 2 to minus 3 degrees C tonight with widespread frost and some icy patches.

A training bike morning tomorrow, perhaps?!

Feels like it'll freeze tonight in Terenure.

Bad this morning. Went for a walk early and was slipping and sliding. Not worth chancing it on the bike. Tomorrow looks better.

How was/is it in and around the city?

went for a loop around the phoenix park before coming over to work.

some very slippy and icy parts.

roads over to work were a good bit better but still wouldn't inspire confidence

Out his morning from 9am, clontarf, sutton, portmarnock, malahide, swords, back of airport, santry. All clear of ice, all the main road gritted so ok.

Stocking Lane pretty much clear up to the viewpoint at 9am, with black ice patches on the very edge of the road. Wouldn't be hugely confident descending it at speed, but it's fine otherwise.

Straight into cloud going on up to the Featherbeds - road quite frosty-looking all the way to Glencree but no problems, even on the bends - just took it handy. Minor road down to Bohernabreena however looked completely white and uninviting. Certainly didn't fancy heading higher to the Sally Gap.

Crone/Long Hill/Djouce/Roundwood/Newtownmountkennedy etc all fine after that. I imagine anything iffy was largely burnt off by eleven or so.

Sounds like an awkward size in clothing. Are you both of similar body/antler size?

Terrible, terrible. Palm towards face. Shockin'.

Anyway, weather looks better tomorrow. Better to get out than spend two hours on the turbo!

I now spend most of my time cycling on a turbo. The longer I have the turbo the less I actually go out into the elements to use the bike. Have a hamper race tomorrow and I can't actually recall the last time I cycled in rain and cold.

Sally and Wicklow Gaps were fine. A few dodgy patches between Sally Gap and Laragh but not too bad all things considered.

Also, I hadn't seen it mentioned here before but the Lake drive around the Blessington Lakes are passable. Theres a makeshift bridge where the road washed away during the floods. Only thing is its not so bike friendly so approach with caution. Probably best to dismount and walk over it, though I got over it by holding the guardrail. If you're coming from the Ballyknockan side approach with extreme care as its at the bottom of a very fast descent and you might see it very late.

As regards where it is, if you know where the Knockanstockan festival takes place, its just before the entrance to that site (if you know the road you'll know the spot - basically where the road is at its lowest).

Turbo trainer and a DVD for me these days. Not a fan of numb face and streaming eyes.
