Psychedelic drugs?

Some people swear that psychedelics can provide access to a higher plan of consciousness, and that they can be used to gain a greater understanding of the nature of the universe and our existence. They say that the incredible visions one can experience while under the influence of things like psilocybin mushrooms, LSD, DMT etc are not products of the mind itself, instead claiming that these are glimpses at something beyond the world we inhabit.

On the other end of the spectrum are those who say that psychedelic drugs are dangerous, they can cause mental illness and that the visions are nothing more than hallucinations, devoid of any of the higher meanings which some users apply to them.

What are your thoughts on the merit of psychedelic experiences, have you ever experimented with them or know others who have and what do you think of their current legal status?

Great fun, i discovered the meaning of life, and forgot it again, and discovered the meaning of life, and forgot it then, and so on for about 8 hours.

My friend beside me thought someone was out to kill him and freaked out about his life being not real for 12 hours.

Same drug, same dose, different effect.

Its all good and well until you get a bad trip.

I haven't taken acid since my last bad trip. I was so freaked out I shat myself. Not an over zealous fart either... I mean I fully and completely shat in my pants while sitting in a chair. I was too afraid to get up off the chair and I was in a room full of people..... I can laugh about it now but it was not at all funny at the time I can assure you.

I take acid occasionally and have never had a bad trip. It's great fun to just lose your mind for a few hours and have a laugh. Makes music and some films a lot better!

took them and enjoyed them but the come down was something else the next day.

Thought my hands went the size of those novetly hands at football matches.
Walked the streets and the trams bkes and cars were making sweet music.
Was in a macdonalds and was liiking a picture and thought I was in the picture.
Friend got paranoid so had to go back to the hostel and turned off all the lights and seen him sleep under his bed.

I had a bad trip at a warped tour in michigan, scariest experience i've ever had.

DMT is just about the wildest thing Ive ever experienced.
Super intense and super short-acting, lasts for about 5 mins then its over and you're back to bassline completely normal.
But those 5 minutes, jesus, into hyperspace chatting with machine elves. Laws of physics cease to exist.

A very special chemical indeed, but extremely rare in Ireland.

    is that enough ?

the come down was just a pleasant except when some drunk person pissed me off

Theres a place drugs can bring you theres a place were satisfaction can bring you but there very different places and Ive enjoyed them booth equally...

I took salvia with a few mates before, various effects different times.

one that stands out most though was being in a tent and was in a world of my own. My mate was outside the tent trying to talk to someone else. They had no idea what he was saying as it was all garbled up and stuff they said. Me however could understand him perfectly.

He was saying that nobody could understand him so i put my hand out the tent flap and said i could!

he grabbed my hand and suddenly both of us were a million billion miles away together on a planet and whatever he seen or experienced i did too and same with anything i seen or experienced. It was by far the most unbelievable experience i had until that point. The whole time both of us looked like we were just rolling around on the ground.

    Hello folks,
Just to clarify... Recommending drugs to anyone is somewhat frowned upon.
From the charter, please try and abide by the following:

    The following are not permitted:

Asking / telling where to buy drugs.
Asking / telling how to take drugs.
Asking / telling how to grow drugs.
Asking / telling how to get a fake ID.
Advising other users to take drugs.

Note that these rules apply to both illegal drugs and the legal alternatives you can buy in head shops. The admins do not want to be held responsible for posts telling people where to get drugs of any kind. You can argue about the legality all you want as long as you abide by these rules.

I have taken them all - including being injected with pure DMT.

Never had a bad experience. Only VERY VERY positive. But that was just me.

It depends on your personality. It is not for everyone.

And DMT is produced naturally in your pineal gland, it's what makes you dream

Edit: I am not sure if the dream thing has been proven, but your body can produce it

Has anyone who has taken LSD noticed that your dreams are screwed up for a time after?

After my first trip I would notice that I would wake up remembering the strangest dreams. They certainly weren't nightmares, just bizarre, sometimes a little explicit (sex, injuries featured heavily, always very much sensory in nature).

I'm not sure if I always dreamed this way, or whether it was the LSD.

I think my dreams have reverted back to normal since I haven't used anything in a while, but it's hard to compare dreams.

I would discourage anyone who is studying from using LSD at important times of their semester. I noticed that I had short term difficulty in reading textbooks and journal papers. I had no difficulty in concentrating whatever, it was purely a short term issue with reading that lasted perhaps a week.

Yeah thats why its so short-acting, its not a foreign substance to your body so it gets metabolised really quickly.

People who have near death experiences and claim to be following the tunnel of light, are in fact experiencing a flood of tryptamines in the brain.

If someone wanted a truely strange experience a person could consume copious quantities of iboga. It is difficult to describe the effects in subject predicative terms as you are transported backwards and forwards in time and into other peoples thoughts. Not for the faint hearted and like ayahuasca is not a recreational drug

That is taking it in its refined state. If you ingest it in its natural state it can last up to 15 hours and make you very ill (as in puking your guts up on an ongoing basis)

Warning- Psychedelic Drugs can lead to bad stuff too.

    You cannot fly.
You can not get away with trying to drown your friend because he expressed a curiosity as to what it would be like to drown.
You must never drive while tripping.

Yes. Also, do it around people you trust, who preferably themselves are staying sober.

A word of caution about using psilocybin mushrooms. Don't use them if you drive a car or operate dangerous machinery, or at least wait at least three days before you do so.:)

They say the best way to get an enjoyable buzz from them is to start with very small doses and gradually increase them, but even then it is possible for people to have "flashbacks" as much as one or several days after they have come down from a trip. I have seen people just stop in mid-sentence and stare off into a void. Just imagine if that happened you just as you were overtaking another car or something.

It is a very short trip with DMT. Apart from all the colours and shapes with DMT you encounter other beings. They are mostly radiant coloured snakes and you can have converstions with them. They are rather arrogant. You see all kinds of other beings as well. Some are like elves and I have seen the classic Grey alien that many people report during the so called abduction experinces - which I reckon is just a trip their brain generates during deep sleep or something and not aliens as such.

I can honestly say it changed my life for the better. I went from a radical aethiest to coming to the realisation that there are other dimensions around us, with other consciouness entities in them. The reductionist mindset of the science today is halarious to me now. People like Dawkings and Hawking now just seem to me to be absurd gob****es trapped in a dogmatic dead end. The universe is far more incredible and dynamic than what our five senses can experience.

I can honestly say it was one of the most important events of my life and NO it was not a hallucination. It was real - whatever "real" is.

No real physical danger with psyches either.

Psyches aren't really known to cause an illness but can trigger an underlying mental illness.

Iv taken Acid numerous times, and iv always had a blast with them, what the imagination comes up with while on these things is unbelievable, but I would say that im very weary about getting a bad trip. Iv seen it happen and would hate for it to happen to me.

DMT on the other hand is facinating, I was extreamily comforted by the fact that the trip will last 5/10 mins at the most, and jesus christ what a 10 minutes, talking to the moon i was:D

Took a 2C-B pill on the Sunday of Rockness festival 2010, a combination of MDMA and LSD, what a day that was, laughing my tree off at everything and anything, totally peaking by the time the Bloody Beetroots Death Crew 77 hit the stage, Amazing.

The psychedelic experience is not one where our brains are merely altered by chemicals as some would like you to believe, these substances allow one to escape the tedium, the boredom that is life. When we take them, we are transported elsewhere, to better places, to universes not yet explored, we become adventurers, we become explorers, travellers to regions of the universe of which our current brain state suppresses. When one takes psychedelics, they effectively transport themselves, the cosmic bus, to spiritual realms in which we explore our true inner selves, and positive karma reigns. Free your mind and your inner being, for when this substance enters your body you are transported to a place above the mountains, and even above the stars, places you can only dream of now.

All drugs are dangerous. However, they are also sooooooo much fun.

-There in lies the rub. :(

Psychedelics alter your perception. What is life, only perception. Hard objects become soft, dryness becomes wet, boring friends become hilarious. Life becomes ridiculous.

And as a previous poster mentioned, for some reason your hands are always dodgey :D

    Some experience

Tried this drug the other night.

You become relaxed and more sociable when you take it. Your focus softens. After some more you begin to lose your balance and slur your words. Take some more and you can either become more friendly and start telling people how much you love them or you become angry and start telling everyone how much you hate them.

Some people become violent on this drug and start fights with people they've never met or even loved ones. A lot of people will end up in hospital from either falling over or being on the receiving end of violence. Some people using this drug will become violent with immediate family members which can lead to severe stresses on children and relationships.

Withdrawal from this drug can cause severe headaches, result in extreme anxiety and nauseousness. Some people will vomit and shake. At the worse end of the scale people will actually die from the shock of withdrawal.

Have you guessed what it is yet?
