Thanks for so many great memories.

Paul Nicholls has confirmed on twitter that Denman has been retired after they noticed a cut to a tendon during his Lexus preparations.

    What a great horse

Despite all the battles with Kauto the race that sticks in my mind was his first Hennessy win. It was an awesome display off top weight

Just heard it on the news. Always sad when such a great horse doesn't get to bow out in style. Thanks for the memories and the wins. The horse owes me nothing.

For me it's the 2009 Hennessy after having the heart op and giving What A Friend a hiding.

He's one of the few horses who you wouldn't mind losing a bet on another horse if it was he that won.

It would have been better if he had been retired after last year's Gold Cup, but no one would have been able to tell he'd be injured.

    A real great.

    Arrivederci old pal.

He inspired my name, first horse I have ever wanted to be sexually active with :pac:

I nearly cried watching him and kauto battling it out up the cheltenham hill in last years gold cup.

It didnt matter that Long run was away, they just looked so happy, two pals racing to beat each other. I would have loved to see him race again but sure he will have a long and happy retirement.

I wonder is Nichols will actually get to take him hunting!?! :pac:

Did anyone get the paper today? 6 pages dedicated to the tank. I'll prob buy it later, is it worth it?

Really upset by this, never got to see him in the flesh. Absolute legend and will be sorely missed.

Been doing a lot of thinking about my favourite race of his and it might well be the 2009 Gold Cup, after his heart problem Madison Du Berlais roundly beat him and I was concerned he would not be the same again. In the Gold Cup he was being nursed around in the Gold Cup and to finish so close to Kauto brought a smile to my face.

Pity we won't get to see him run again. He was one of my favourite horses.

The Gold Cup won't be the same without him and Kauto Star battling it out.
