Kempes is a big price. May need the run but 6/1 looks big to me. I think Joncol and Tranquil Sea could be pushed out a notch. And probably Rubi Light too, half a notch. Kempes would be my bet, especially with Golden Silver being omitted and Kempes Mullins only runner.

    EDIT
Forgot he had that run over hurdles against Psycho. looks a really good bet to me. I was at the Fairyhouse meeting when Kempes was staying on 3rd in the Hilly way over 2m. 2m4f is an ideal distance for him imo.

If Rubi Light runs I like him for it. Think it's a poor bunch now Golden Silver is gone

Rubi Light for me, the most progressive horse in the race and probably has too much speed for Tranquil Sea and Joncol. Kempes will be running on late but Rubi Light seems the classiest of this bunch.

Rubi Light for me aswell. Have him in a double with Grandouet.

    Joncol for me.

I have a saver on Rubi Light @ 5/2, but main bet is on Kempes. He has the speed for a race like this and beat Joncol over the Hennessy trip at Leopardstown. Rubi Light might end up being 10lbs+ better than these but for now Kempes is over priced. I'd have him in at 5s or 9/2 and that big only because hes been pulled up in his last two chases...on good ground. Kempes looked tired at the end of his comeback at Cork and I don't think it was that disappointing a return. I'm having a saver on RL because I think he could be over priced too, even as favourite.

I don't think good ground hampers him too much Nulty, he sluiced in at the Punchestown festival in 2010 on a sound surface.

I think he just wasn't good enough to go with the pace of the Gold Cup and was probably over the top at Punchestown. I think he prefers three miles and his price of 7's is probably fair, if not a point overpriced.

Pretty poor contest in all honesty though.

9-1 Kempes now ,why the big drift ??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,838 ✭✭✭Nulty

Dunno, he's not the sexy horse in the race, and they're all drifting apart from Rubi Light. I don't think his best trip is 3m, I think it could be 2m5f on this ground or he's equally effective at both. I think he should have gone in the Ryanair last year and I made that clear here before the festival. I'm not very confident given the lack of support but I think at his best he wouldn't be the price he is.

Anyone get the paper today? What did Willie have to say?

One thing I'll say about Rubi Light when he was on his way to beating Sizing Europe is that Coolcashin finished less than 2l behind SE that day. That was not Sizing Europe that Rubi Light was beating. His form in the Ryanair is the only form that can stand to him.

Both Kempes and Rubi Light finished within 6l of Golden Silver over 2m last year and it's easy to suggest that Rubi Light has more progress to make but this is horse racing and Kempes is definitely overpriced at 9/1. I've gone in again at 9/1.

Nightmare race for Kempes. Maybe should have been pulled up?

So many disappointed in that race.

Well done lads who were in on Rubi Light

Kempes was put down unfortunately Nulty.

Nice win for Rubi Light amongst an average field.

Nulty I don't think you can say that it wasn't Sizing Ruby Light was beating that day. Sizing is obviously best over two miles

    Is that not a contradiction?

Well you said it yourself, he was beating Sizing over what you think is not his best trip and on what is commonly believed not to be his favorite ground when he was weak in the market before the race. I'd say it is pretty fair to say that it was not Sizing Europe that he was beating that day. Sizing jumped like a log that day too and Rubi Light loves cut.

Awful news. Should have been pulled up but I'm not blaming the jockey...he should have been pulled up.

Very sad about Kempes - he didn't jump well throughout the race at all.

Rubi Light really turned the race into a procession and won well. Wonder if he can go like that on good ground?

fascinating though that the books seemed to predict a bad display from kempes hhmmmm

Rubi will run on every ground lads.

Hennessy has repeatedly said he loves heavy ground.

I have a hunch that he will probably be best suited by soft or even good-soft ground. He has too much speed to be a total mudlark.

He has the speed but be won't be bothered by the mud like a lot of the other sorts who'll can't stand the mud, the ground isn't a factor with him.

Based on his Cheltenham Ryanair run, it does look like he does go well over good ground, could have won that day bar a bad blunder, but surely theres a ground preference there for the horse(or any horse mind) where he can produce his top form?
