I've heard of people having issues with these advanced format drives, tbh though I'm not sure its that big a problem. Have a Samsung 2tb AF drive and its alrite, had it a few months now and no issues whatsoever

Dabs.ie, its the HD204UI, I baught it for €68 but that was a few months back, before the Thailand situation. I use it as my OS drive and its fine, its only 5400rpm but tbh don't notice the slowness compared to the previous 7200rpm drive

Definately not a problem, sure they can they can shove 1Tb onto a single platter nowadays, so a 3 X 667GB platter 2Tb drive is sitting firmly on very stable technological foundation by this stage.

Yea, just bad timing, (did you see this pic?) it has really hiked up the price. I've a few 320/500GB portables with important stuff that I want to backup in one place before the inevitable happens and I lose stuff.

I've never bought one of the bigger plugged external HDDs and just curious as to reliability.

I was going to get this one, does anyone have it? What do you think of it?

Amazon reviews are typically rubbish, one review can 5 star a certain feature and another review can 1 star the same thing.

HDD user reviews are kind of useless anyway as people tend to give either 5 stars if it works as expected, or 1 star if it doesn't (and any manufacture will ship some drives that are DOA). I would only be concerned if I saw a disproportionality large amount of negative reviews for a particular product.

WD are a good manufacturer so I would have no hesitation buying it (I have a 2TB elements drive myself that I am more than happy with), but you can get unlucky with pretty well any manufacturer and get sent a dud from time to time.

Apparently you can pickup a 2TB seagate in Easons at the moment with a pretty decent 5900rpm drive inside it for 89 euros (Probably only USB2 so the WD above would be faster, but it will save about a tenner if speed is not a critical fator).

Seen that Thread alright and popped in for a look yesterday, staff member never seen one in the shop. Must be the bigger Dublin Stores only. Silly.

Bought the WD there.:) Hopefully not a dud. "Fingers Crossed"
