5 year or 3 year? http://www.hoards.com/11oct10-milk-price-cycle . If only it was that easy to predict, we just don't know! I personally don't think we will have any such crash again soon (within a few years), but you simply never know when the likes of the Chinese milk protein scare will happen again!

what drops are happening out there as butter has crashed to almost 2/3 of the price last year and even though cheese has not fallen the west cork coops are looking at 3 cent drop in may and 2 cent in june:confused::eek::confused::eek:

As long as the price drops don't go too far I think most will be ok

Although anybody with a serious milk levy taken from their May and June milk cheques could have cash flow problems with these steep cuts

When you think back a few year 1p a gallon was the usual milk price cut - now these cuts are anything from 10-20 cent a gallon - crazy swings compared to the not too distant past

very hard to run a business with these swings how can you budget for it.Lots of money spent on parlours are these lads going to be in trouble if price goes south and will they drive price down further with increased supply just to justify them

    What's the story folks?

I see on today's paper that most of the co-ops are cutting prices.

Anyone got a figure of what break even point is per litre?

That's like asking is sucklers profitable;)

Your typical low cost dairy enterprise would have costs around 15-16 cent. Hitting 20 cent and your talking high costs
