    U.K. Books....same species as Ireland

    Taxidermy a Complete Manual.

    Taxidermy for You

    U.S. Books

    Taxidermy Step-by Step
    Waddy F. Mc Fall

    (older version)

    Taxidermy Guide
    Waddy F. Mc Fall

(newer version...same as old one above ...a few bits extra added here & there)

The above books use methods whereby all the materials are available in Ireland and are a great starting point....well written, easily understood and good illustrations.

Many of the other U.S. taxidermy books explain the skill using bought forms (especially deer). All the above books show how to make the body (manikin) yourself.

You do need a Wildlife Dealers licence (free) to mount protected species.

There's no problem mounting vermin that doesn't have a season or protected under E.U. Derogation.....mouse, rat, rabbit, grey squirrel, mink, feral cat, fox & feral goat.

Although crows, magpies etc. are vermin they are protected and a licence is needed for these.

Post number 11 here for more details
