Do all boxes come with HDMI output or is that just for Digital+HD customers?

Sorry I meant a output, just got my unit replaced today form a black unit with a silver one,and all it has is two scart connections plus an internet connect, and usual audio connections.
But the reason I asked the question in the first place was that I will be replacing my TV this Christmas with a TV with HDMI connections.

Get Sky HD or Freesat HD then. MMDS is dead and poor value.

I'm fairly sure I saw a post a couple of months ago saying that UPC are now shipping non-HD boxes which have SCART and HDMI outputs, that presumably is to cater for people with TVs with HDMI only.

Was just onto UPC C/S and was told that only HD boxes had HDMI outputs:confused:

I checked back and it appears that there is a UPC HD box which has HDMI and SCART according to these threads.

However as far as I'm aware there are lots of new TVs coming out that have HDMI and no SCART so I don't know how people with non-HD UPC boxes are supposed to connect up if they upgrade the TV. I've submitted a query to UPC.

Anyone know what TVs these would be? (I haven't seen them)

Do these TVs have Composite (and/or S-video) inputs ?
If they do a cheap SCART adaptor would allow connection.

Put it this way,if a TV manufacturer decided to dump the scart input and not give the buyer some way of connecting their existing equipment, well that's bad form. It's still a standard form of connection that's not dead just yet. I see loads of people with bog standard DVD players even VCR's daily that still use the scart connections.

UPC have a STB,non recordable that has scart and HDMI outputs.

My Samsung smart TV has every connection conceivable except a scart input so Samsung included two HDMI to scart adaptors. Even though I don't need them for any of my equipment,I wasn't left with a connection dilemma. :)

HD box has both BUT the set up instructions stress that you should never use both outputs at the same time.

Theres HD Ready Philips TV that have every connection except HDMI....

The average punter hasn't a clue what connections are required and are dependent on a Sales man - some are very helpful, others....

You mentioned this in a previous post ... are you 100% sure? HDMI and SCART are two fundamentally different standards, one digital and the other analogue, and an 'adapter' would be a complicated (and possibly expensive) thing, especially to give away for free.

I've seen a TV (not sure if it was a Samsung or not) that abandoned the standard SCART sockets, largely for reasons of space on the now very slim chassis, and replaced them with 'mini SCART' sockets which look a bit like HDMI to the untrained eye. The 'adapter' then is simply a cable, with no active components at all.

To clarify the situation, I asked UPC the following question...

I live in an area with no option for HD TV so I'm currently on a non-HD Digital+ box connected via SCART. I'm thinking of upgrading my TV but a lot of the new TVs have HDMI only and no SCART. Can UPC supply a non-HD digital+ box with HDMI output?

    They responded....

Please be advised that, Yes there is an HDMI output for the normal boxes also.

So while my non-HD Digital+ box has SCART only, the newer non-HD boxes have HDMI and SCART outputs though from previous threads it appers that you cannot use both at the same time e.g. watch a program via HDMI and record via SCART.

@ Alun. You are indeed correct, its not HDMI but rather a slim connection similar to an iPhone jack but 3/4 the size of one. Only glanced at it when I bought the TV,didn't use them so just pulled them out of the bag to have a closer look. They can be used on two EXT sockets on the set.

    Sorry for the confusion.:o
