Thinking of treating myself to laser hair removal in the new year, I've very strong coarse hair and shaving is starting to do my head in!! Just wondering about yer experiences? if it was worth it? what type of clinic should I be looking too?

An advice greatly appreciated, costly business so wanna have all the info! :)

I'm the perfect candidate for it. I've had bikini line and underarms done, I had no regrowth between my first and second session and very little again between the second and third (tomorrow). I've had mine done HERE, I'm the perfect candidate though, I'm very pale with dark hair so it works well for me. I still have 4 treatments to go, including tomorrow, given the results I've seen so far I'd highly recommend it.

They lie when they say it doesn't hurt though. :)

I've read about different types of machines have different results...?

I have very pale skin and coarse dark hair. I had the first of six treatments about seven weeks ago and I haven't had any regrowth. So for me anyway, it's been really successful. Raccoon Queen is right though, it hurts like hell but only temporarily.

I think storminateacup(?) is the one who knows about this sort of stuff. I think it's the IPL machines that aren't as successful, but someone who knows what they're talking about might correct me on that. Actually plan on getting my legs done as well after this course finished, it's always coming up on deal sites - I got 6 sessions on 2 areas for €79 on livingsocial, I pay an extra €20 each visit for full bikini and they do my tummy line too. :D

I could have written this post! Same place, same areas, same look. Only I had one session so far. No regrowth at all, I think I am the perfect candidate too.

I squealed a couple of times during the underarm treatment all right... amazingly the bikini is easier. They say if there is no regrowth it won't hurt nearly as much.

Very happy with the treatment and the offer so far. I will be adding half leg at €60, it does make sense for me.

I personally don't believe that IPL is less effective than laser. Laser is more concentrated and when used incorrectly or by someone who has not been trained properly, it poses more risk of scarring burning or causing pigmentation. Those laser machines that are followed with cold air are absolutely useless.

The light is attracted to pigment so ideally, the paler the skin and the darker the hair, the better.

Your therapist will assess the fitzpatrick of the skin before begining and will set the machine accordingly.

The more tanned a person is, the lower the pulses and joules need to be and therefore, the less benefical the treatment.

The idea and notion that one machine is better than the other really hasn't convinced me. I really think on how proficient and thorough your therapist is. Are you having a full treatment or is your treatment rushed?

Again -- there are 3 stages of hair growth. The 1st stage (the growth stage) is the ideal stage as the laser will be more beneficial, and the hair follicle will be destroyed as it's got a direct route to the Dermal papilla. The 3rd stage is basically resting and the laser won't have any effect on it as the hair isn't connected to the dp.

It's important to remember - your therapist is not a mind reader. You will feel uncomfortable - like you're being pinched, but you should NEVER feel like it's too hot and burning. If it ever does, you need to tell your therapist IMMEDIATELY, don't wait to see if it burns on the next one. Laser should never ever ever burn.

Laser is not permanent hair removal. It's hair reduction - and you will need top up sessions. There are so many different things that affect hair growth, and at different stages or periods of your life, you may notice hair appearing. This is why you need to keep on top of your maintenance, if you don't, you're basically going to need your entire course again.

I'm so tired -- I hope that's answered your questions, and wasn't just a big jumble, If I've missed any question, feel free to just ask :)

How come? Because of the laser or the cold air?
