Help me deal with hunger.

Im on a diet. Due to damage done to my stomach due to anti inflammatory drugs .

I have a simple doctors order. Dont eat greasy fatty food and Dont over eat.

This is the last stage of 4 months of scopes and boxes of Proton pump inhibitors.

On the plus side of this im losing a nice bit of weight, and finding great satisfaction with eating well..

I also work out 3 times and week and have a manual job as a welder. Im quite active.

Im finding it hard to deal with hunger soon after I eat.

An example of yesterdays food which is common for each day.

    breakfast. 6.30am

half cup of porridge with a table spoon of flax seed and a two spoons of bran

first break 10am (and very hungry)

Salad bowl and a tin of mackerel in sunflower oil .

    Lunch 1pm.
apple and banana . yogurt. Cup of tea. maybe a second apple.

    feeling very full now.

But at 3 pm I get very hungry again. and by the time I get home I am so hungry I tend to over eat at dinner time. When I used to deli rolls with bad stuff I never felt like this.

Its as if the food I am eating is only filling for a short length of time.

My question is. How could I adjust my daily daytime diet to keep hunger away, still eat healthy and continue to slowly lose weight.

    I am 35 years old , weigh 85kg and 5' 11" I have been in this diet for 2 months+.

eat something more substantial at lunch time that has more good fats and protein in it e.g. swap your 10am snack (just bump it up more) with your 1pm. Have something else to eat at 4pm (snack) and then a normal dinner.

Would be no harm to take some digestive enzymes or even apple cider vinegar with all meals to help with improving digestion etc

Good god yeah, eat more at lunch! I'd be starving if I had to eat that little food.

Since you don't want to overload your tummy at the moment I would recommend more meals spread throughout the day.

So I'd modify your diet like this:

Ditch the bran at breakfast, it's a waste product of the food industry, not a health food. It depletes vitamin and mineral status. The flax and porridge are a good enough source of fiber on their own.

Add in a boiled egg or two at 8am, or if you don't tolerate eggs, a plain sliced chicken breast, very easy to digest and filling.

Get the mackerel in brine if you can, there's enough good oils, and the sunflower oil is not as great as you'd think.

Then lunch can be moderate portion of hearty meat soup or stew. Good and filling on cold winter days and a great way to pack in extra vegetables. Also gentle on the digestion. I make a big batch on Sunday and freeze it in individual tupperware portions.

A small piece of snack cheese (those 20g packs are handy, filling and portion controlled) or a full fat natural yoghurt and fruit at 4pm to keep you going until dinnertime.

Thanks for the advise. I will put it all into practice next week. :)

    What are digestive enzymes ?

I have been eating lots of Activa during breaks as well . It helps ease the pain on flare ups. Its cool and creamy and the effects on my esophageal sphincter are immediate . Doctor said if it works for you , keep doing it. (he said the same for the odd pint of stout).

But does all that pro active stuff help the belly? The claims on the packet are very vague on the actual benefits to parts of the digestive track . Im wondering if I should eat more of it. Is it good food for the belly as well as the gut?

Probiotics and Digestive enzymes do help. Keep in mind, all things in moderation. I wouldn't go overboard on the Activa stuff. There are options out there for you if you look for them. Boosting your digestive system can be tricky.
