Just wondering...is 'Bite it you scum' an apt name for boards. It was pretty offensive to me and I'm sure to others. Thanks for your help.

Thanks, I'm learning off justinguitar.com. He seems to have a good learning system but advises on having a playing chum. I'll get there.

There isn't a definitive list of inappropriate usernames. it's a bit of a judgement call but definitely let us know if you see an inappropriate username. Anyway, whatever about the username, that user seemed to only interested in causing hassle so they have now been sitebanned.

Back on topic, what sort of music are you interested in playing? It would probably be helpful to let folks know.

Indeed and thanks, should have ignored him.

Music, all types, mainly English bands. Hate country and US 'kick-ass' type bands. Like Clash, Pulp, Blur, Charlatans etc mainly rocky pop. Like ska too but just starting out. First song to learn is Pulp - Common people.

Fair play to you for starting up now.

(I was a late starter too.)

Might be worth sticking up an ad in the local music shop, or the local supermarket if it has a notice board.

Ask around in work or friends. Guitar players always seem to be everywhere when you start asking. Finding some one to play with is always a problem, often they won't have the same tastes or want to dominate a session. So it might take some time. I'd also suggest recording yourself and listening to it, even making backing track of yourself to play with. I found I heard all my mistakes that way. I haven't played guitar in a few years, love to take it up again, but no time at the moment.

Why not join a group beginners class? You will meet fellow beginners there. Waltons do one I think.

I'd also recommend a loop pedal. You can pick one up for around €100. I recommend the Akai Headrush. You can use it to make your own simple backing of a few chords and then play around over it for as long as you want.
