Quick question about Christmas stockings?

My family don't really do Christmas stockings, but this year I'm planning to make some for my parents. Problem is, I haven't gotten a stocking since I was about 10, and can't remember - should I wrap the gifts and then put them in the stocking, or do they go in unwrapped? I think they used to be wrapped in mine, but a lot of friends have said theirs are never wrapped inside the stocking. What do you do?

Nothing in our stockings were ever wrapped, however I spent last Christmas with family in London last year and my aunt wrapped everything in them for my cousins. I suppose it's just a personal preference!
