My dvd recorder is a pain to use às it has no hard drive so is dependent on discs but I need to record a lot.

I have a skybox but no current subscription (and don't want one) and a UHF aerial for Irish channels.

    What are my options?

you could always get a tv tuner with an "s-video in" adapter for your laptop and then cable it up to the sky box, then record what programs you want using windows media center to record it to the hard drive in your laptop... :)

Just get a Freesat HDR receiver and put Sky box in spare room.
