They've been building a tunnel to Africa (but missed)!

Someone should tell the passengers on the 05:30 Limerick-Dublin Heuston

is it that they're pissing money away on IT people who clearly have no idea know what they're doing?

Errors happen in new websites. Of course too many errors would be worrying.

It would seem to be that for a small amount of data the X coordinate is duplicated in the Y coordinate column. The trains on the map is mostly a toy. I would be much more interested that data on safety features is properly recorded.

Oh, read this http://new.irishrail.ie/cat_news.jsp?i=4385&p=116&n=237 and feel free to add comments. It might be worth your while.

Knowing Irish Rail the tunnel goes through the Panama Canal and round the horn but because it crosses the date line they will claim that trains are arriving at destination before they depart:D

That exact point off the African coast happens to be latitude 0, longitude 0. Having worked with GPS software before, you get very used to it. I guess that explains it, a bug somewhere causing bad data.

Working with the WGS84 system, as Google does, produces that mistake. Co-incidentally, the equivalent mistake on Irish Grid or Irish Transverse Mercator will end up with a point in Lough Ree instead of off Africa.

I'm not certain that they were showing at 0.00 0.00, more -8.00,-8.00 (instead of -8.00,53.00), as some of hte icons were definitely away from the equator. I realise that some of the icons are offset incorectly, especially the Google "pins"
