UPC+HD - Possible to turn off display?

Hi all, I have searched without success.

Recently received my HD box - quite impressed with it, picture quality is good, machine seems to work ok. Connections are quite limited, could use an extra Scart and perhaps an RF output also for piping around the house. I have it operating video by HDMI direct to screen with optical audio to a cinema amp - sound quality and sync is good but would like to see a lot more HD channels with 5.1 sound but I guess that will come in time.

Question though - anyone know if there's an option to dim or turn off the display on the front of the HD box? I find it too bright and it's also the wrong colour for my system!

Yes, press the menu button on the upc remote then go into settings, in there u go into power settings, in there u go down to "power consumption in standby" and set it to low, when u put your box on standby it will take about 20 mins for the display on the box to go off completely, hope that was the answer u were looking for.

Hi and thanks for yours. Sorry if I wasn't clear but no, the problem I have is when the unit is turned on, was hoping to just kill or dim the display. Can always just put black tape over it but thought maybe a software switch available to set it to off?

why would they put a Scart and RF on a HD box, kind of defeats the purpose.

that's like looking for a floppy drive with a PC or laptop.

The main reason would be to facilitate the routing of the HD Box output to a second TV in kitchen or bedroom (but then I guess they don't want people doing that!).

You could route the RF (out) to a Analog HD recorder or DVD burner.

Some people have scart TV's and went the capacity of the HD box. Or as above they want to record off, and their HD/DVD recorder doesn't have HDMI.

it's only €5 a month for multi room. And the box is a PVR so no need to record it to a HDD/DVD

Some people like to archive stuff to DVD. Sports events etc.

Its not like the UPC boxes are the epitome of reliability.

I appreciate that but "only €5.00" a month is €60 a year and if, like me, you have kids in the playroom, wife in the kitchen, etc it adds up pretty quickly!

Heretofore we've gotten over the issues with ability to watch analogue circa 18 channels in any room and also to watch whatever station the Digital box happens to be tuned to at that particular time also. The latter option is now gone and I personally don't feel I should have to pay €60 a year to get it back. Just sayin'

AS BostonB says, there's also the issue of maybe wanting to record to a device other than the HDD in the UPC box also. Personally, I've found a work around this problem already but it's tedious and messy.

Very Very True! the €60 a year is a little hard to swallow!
