Just wondering, you always hear about the "official patrol car" but never about "the official ambulance" or the "official fire engine" - Why is it referred to as the "official patrol car"? Why not the Garda car (I'm sure there is a song about that) or the Garda van? Does that mean if yer pulled by a memebr of AGS on a bike it will be reported as "the official bicycle"?

Following on from this - Are there such things as unofficial patrol cars?

Of course. A members own car could be considered an unofficial patrol car as members are always on duty etc.

It really goes back to years ago when, as you pointed out, official bikes were issue to station. However if you didn't have one you had to use your own bike to get around.....leading to the term "will I take the official bike?"
